I Flaked my van's interior...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BARNETT, Nov 10, 2004.

  1. ...I decided I needed to spiff up the van's interior a little. This is a real cheapie job...I'm definitely not gonna run Donnie, Harpoon or Tuck outta business. [IMG] The 'flake is Createx Auto Air (water based, water borne) flake green/gold with emerald flake over that...it's all sprayed over Createx Auto Air base black. The dash, door panels and dog house lid's insert allgot the flake treatment. After that, it was all cleared with Dupont Nason clear (thanks leSabre59). All the shiny black, like the doors, door jambs and dog house lid, were sprayed and/or brushed with One Shot Lettering Enamel Black. The pics suck, but the flake is super flakie! I'm gonna go back and spray a couple more heavy coats of clear, though...still too much texture on the flaked surfaces. All in all, not bad for my first interior effort and first major effort with Auto Air...and the van looks ten times better from the driver's seat!

  6. Thanks, T-Rash! My Detroit pals are always bustin my balls about how much green I use in my work...I can't help it...I dig green! I REALLY dig flake! This was a HUGE improvement on the interior. Now I just gotta save some cash to have FatLucky's do the seats! If I keep the van long enough, it'll get a new paint job, too.

Yes, more pic's. Try having someone hold a trouble light at an angle and leave the flash bar off. It look's like it is really rich, and w/ your adding some more clear to bury the flake, it will become very deep looking.

  11. I just used the tip that came with my cheapie HVLP touch up gun that AntiChrysler got me for my birthday. The only thing I had a problem with was I needed to remove the screen/filter so the flake would pass through the gun.

I'm tryin to hang onto it Tuck...I've got another case of AADD (auto attention deficit disorder) kicking in...I've had the van for over 2 years! That's a record for me! [IMG]

T-Rash...do it! I dare ya'. [IMG]

Really neat color combo...looks great! Funny...whenever I see your name on the HAMB, a mental image of the Mystery Machine always pops into my head. I'm a major Scooby Doo fan...so I mean that as a compliment!

some people say...''.if the vans a rockin'.''.......i say ''hey what's goin on in there ????????.''..... [IMG]

  22. Hudson Hawk...the dash stayed in the van...it's not removable. The door panels were removed, but the doghouse lid stayed put. Look for Createx online...Auto Air has been out for a while, but they've been making it better, recently. It's weird spraying the irridecents and pearls and colors...they have to be sprayed DRY and in lots of layers. Same with the flake, but it's more "forgiving".

Donnie...don't worry about getting busy to stay ahead of me...this car painting sh*t is hard work!! I try to avoid hard work. [IMG] It's fun messing with my pos, though...a good sense of accomplishment for very little cash out-lay.

Next week I'm gonna spray some more clear on it. I was a little timid with it, because I was concerned about it running, but I don't think I'll have much problem with it next time. The little HVLP touch up gun sprays really nice!

Thanks for the good words, everyone! Here's another shot of the van, for Gracie...

I know. Originally i wanted to put Cragar S/S's or aluminum slots on it! Cash flow kinda put that on hold, but it might happen, yet. I also want redlines.
