Recently, I was reading the thread about cars from "back in the day" being somewhat crudely built. I have always thought that the "restored" race cars were over-restored and way too nice.

This is a prime example of what drag racing looked like in 1960. No fancy shops, no fancy tools just an average guy and the love of drag racing. This truck was a national record holder for quite some time in C/Gas. Injected 265 Chevy with a Chrysler push button 904 Transmission. Banjo Ford rear end with 5.13 Gears and Mercury axles.

Looks great. I agree the restorations and tribute cars done today are WAY over done. Many of the teams with few bucks did build very nice cars much better than the real back yard guys. There were of guys without the cast aluminum and polished parts as I remember them. Big Daddy was known to some as Don garbage and if true he put a lot of them ON the trailer and not like today IN the trailer (second deck).

Very nice. Sometimes I think we have forgotten what vehicles really looked like for the common man .

That's how it was done. A legitimate historical reference.

Check out the timing cover and injector pump. I still have that cover on the Fly along with the injectors.

What a time machine, and it was a national record holder. Cool to see how it was really done back in the day

Thanks guys. I enjoy digging through the old pics. I need to scan more. My scanner is kinda wonky, so I have to have my sister do it for me.
