  1. It is nice to see that you and your father have a common interest. Congratulations to your father for his dag racing history / records. It is people like your father that helped to create the interest that we share today.

In a couple of the pics you can see the towbar. He flat towed it to the track. He had a set of axles he had cut off to use the flange, so the rear end wouldn't turn while towing. I still have the axles and the towbar.

  4. This is just GREAT, ROOT! They way it really was, and the way it was done. Like I tell some of the younger guys, alot of these racers built the stuff at home, in small garages, with what money they could scrape together. And raced their hearts out. REAL DRAG RACERS!:D:cool:

Slow by today's standards but he consistently ran in the 12.10-12.20 range.

Here is a little piece of history. Some may have seen it in the family album thread Ryan did a while back. This was when they won Little Eliminator. That's my dad and my grandparents in the pic.

The Halibrands were brand new and new to the scene. Mom bought them for their first Anniversary present. That was pre-kids, of course.
It was a 1957 Chrysler Silver. It never had paint until 1975.

I'll bet you were asking your dad to borrow the truck ALOT...
You and many other Hambers had a head start on the Hotrod thing as it was a part of the Family tradition. I as many of us had minimal to no exposure to such things...I'm catching up now thankfully and gettin a taste...

The Mags were an anniversary present wow kinda like a wedding ring to a woman...;) What a Lady...

It was on the track until 1976ish, then it was retired. It sat outside behind the garage for years. t made me sad, he put it back on the street in 2000. He mentioned turning it back into a gasser the other day. He's 78 this month.

That Trophy Version (Post#11) would be dynamite...;) run it at the Hamb Drags he gets first rip down the track...If you guys do that it would have to be videoed for timeless enjoyment for ever and ever...

Exciting story evolving here Roothawg......I'm dreaming a little on Your's and Pops behalf...only problem with dreaming for me is I'm going to go out to the garage and the truck won't be there...:D...whatever you choose to do you have fun with your Dad...

So is the black one in the recent photo a different one for your pops and the blue one the original? GREAT story really like history of Hot rods stories.

No, that's the same truck in all pics. The story on the truck is that my grandpa bought it for our produce company in 1936. It had 8 Ford flatheads and 4 Fred Jones rebuilt flatheads in it before being retired. He gave it to my dad in 1956. Dad pulled a 265 out of a 55 Chevy and started driving it to school. Eventually he chopped it and put it on the track full time. The other gray truck is mine. He bought it for me in 1970 for my 2nd birthday.

Here is a pic of my truck in 1970 on my second birthday. Look hard, it's there.

Those are two extremely special trucks...almost darn near family. You guys must have names for them...2 yrs old and your first vehicle was already gift wrapped with your name on it...wow Special Mom/Special Dad heck they're all special but that is prrrretty special.

I will be buried in mine.

I got very upset the other day. He asked me what I was going to do with his truck. I asked him why he was asking and he said he thought he was getting too old to do this stuff anymore and thought it might be time to pass it on to me.

My dad is my partner in crime. He taught me everything there is about hot rods. I can't imagine him not being around. I told him to just keep driving it and I'll take it once he is done.

Then he went out and bought a 68 El Camino, he changed the floor pans this weekend.......so much for retiring.

You guys are awesome...Hey you should do a reshoot while working in the garage together like that old pic you posted (Post#15). Old cars is in the veins. Tinkering and wrenching is a form of retirement. Keeps the mind moving and the fingers wiggling. Hope I can do the same...

Mine is in pieces. However the Produce truck is almost ready. We should do another photo shoot.

I went back and added a few pics and captions to help clear up any confusion.
