Don't look like no 8BA to me.

Looks like a 21 stud, pump in heads, typical 36 to me.

    But what do I know.

    Hey Flat,

That's a great story and lots of good pics. Yeh, probably not worth draggin home!

Ya proved again there's still stuff out there! Lot of work but sure is straight and complete. I'm sure lot's of folks would be interested but not 10 gs worth. Oh well, that's just his starting price with lots of negotiating room!! HA

Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you'll let us know "the rest of the story" as it unfolds. Your probably getting pms for directions to the place already!
    Take care,

In 1996 after just purchasing a house, I went to swap meet "just looking" Well about 1 year before I bought the house I sold a sinister Chopped 3W 34 coupe. I had it since I was a kid. Total sellers remorse !! I took in a Stinkin Lincoln 54 Capri & Some cash to save for the house and I let the clown owe me a significant amount a $'s only to get totally screwed over by him and never paid..
This person had been someone that I had lent money to before so I believed I could trust him.....End of that part of the story, lesson learned, but Karma will soon prevail!
Back to the swap meet. I come across these 2 guys who are peddling a 34 2dr sedan, so me & 3 other guys are reading the sign that's placed on the side of the body, Low & behold they have a 34 3w Cpe & Aussie Steve knows this cuz he & his pals bought a 34 Vicky. They also had a cut in 1/2 steel 34 roadster body. All gennie Murray Briggs & Budd parts!
I inquired as to what time they would be either leaving the swap or to what time they would arrive @ their house, they weren't very close. but I got the directions, got there 1st. some other guys showed up while I was there,I got nervous & made them a $1500.00 offer on a toatlly roached out body w/o doors. Mind you, this was better than no body! And we all have figured out that anything can be repaired. I spent the next week looking for doors & I hadn't yet picked up the body. So a friend of mine asked if he could go wih me to pick it up. When he saw it he said "Boy is it rough!". We got to talking about another 34 3W his brother knew about in the high desert area by El Mirage.
A week after 1st 3W came home the guy who sold it to me called to tell me he found me doors. I go check them out & they're the doors off of the coupe he sold me 2wks before. He wanted $1500.00 & Gave him $800.00(they had the window frames but no window regulators=no worries) Here is where good Karma comes back to me. I went to see this High Dessert 3W. Yep she was all there. Rats in the trunk & all=(I have pics) This sucker hadn't been registered since 1962 & driven last sometime I was told in 57.
I was told that the old guy that owned it really didn't want to sell it. I totally respected that, I spent many hours on the phone with him, I offered my help in getting it back on the road, spent lots of money sending him Rod Mags with Ideas for it and he told me that he wanted to get rid of the chassis, put a TCI IRS type under it,A teas Design seat, do the body up & swap out the turtle deck for a rumble lid.
I priced a chassis @ my cost, the seat got an written estimate for all of the body work along with the interior, glass wheels & tires chrome, radiator, gas tank & all of the lil stuff. He lived in Compton & Meanwhile his sister who is in the dessert is getting all of these guys from down my area that are trying to beat her out of the car:mad: ,("which my friend said no one other than I knew about") Well the old guy called me & told me to meet him 12:30pm on Aug 26th. I had a pocket full of cash & brought a compressor to put air in the tires
Well,he didn't show up till 5.00pm and he had a big suprize for me!!!
The car was mine for $8000.00:cool: , I inquired as to why he wanted sell it to me & "he said that any body that would call him 24 times just to shoot the bull about this car should have it." He pulled an envelope out of the house which held a CA. pink slip issued in 1949,signed it & gave me all the old registrations.
I told him that I'd like to continue keeping in touch with him & would let him know of any progress that I would make.About 1 month later I came out of shock rebuilt the master cyl, replaced brk lines rebuilt whl cyls pulled heads & unstuck the valves on the 1940 24 stud. I fired her up in all of her glory after sitting all those years. Got on the phone, called the old guy he was happy to hear it run. I drove it over to his house in Compton & he was elated to see the old girl. we went for a ride, he drove ,it popped out of 2nd then informed that there was a hook under the dash that held the stick so it would pop out.=Good Karma!
This Karma story isn't over yet, because I purchased the ultimate rare Murray Bodied 34 3W 2 yrs later for a whopping $7500.00 Which was also a Barn/House Fresh car. One catch, the Hot Rod laymen haven't a clue what the hell it is. Give up? It's cabriolet tooling along with a lightly modified 3W roof mfg'd for Hupp Motor Co as a W417. Fender styling along with semi floating running boads and the Parkardish grill & long hood made this sucker look Huge!!!! This body would set right down on a 34 ford frame as would the 34 grille/hood asy. She won't get chopped ,maybe rodded & just made more reliable/semi restored. She's a driver as she is.
Moral: Don't think someone beat you out of something.
Money: Good or Bad = You decide!;)
