it would be easier to fix the problem rather then spending the time rewiring a start button........i think i read that wrong you are using the button to help you diagnose the problem right?

take a jumper wire straight from battery to your button then from the botton to the solenoid. maybe the wire from you ignition switch is losing some voltage or something. does it crank slow still?

something inside the solenoid isn't strong enough to make the conection, but when you force it by pushing the button on the noid it works properly. is it fo sho a 6 volt noid?

the part of the solenoid that mounts to the fender or where ever its mounted to. the shiny piece that the 2 bolts are going through, make sure its grounded good, ground it straight to the battery, there maybe to much paint behind it or the fender may not be grounded good enough.

run a wire from the ground post on the battery to the top part of the solenoid the same shiny piece of metal that the 2 mounting bolts go through, that part of the solenoid needs to be grounded

I am sorry I don't mean to interrupt it sounds like You guys are on the right track but I was wondering what dose the purple wire off the back of the ignition switch hook to because it looks like it is connected to the same pole as the start pole I might be wrong but it is hard to see by the pic.

  23. :DBINGO!!! Those grounds need to be on shiny metal (not painted)

I agree with these guys that the silonoid needs to be grounded. Or mabe the silonoid is 12 volt and 6 volt is not enough power to work the silonoid. I just wanted to add that I got my ez wire kit for 89$ and it worked great in my coupe. click on my signature model a build I have some pics of my install that might help. you can run 12 volt batt and put in a 6 volt voltage regulater for about 12$ from speedway

I got mine brand new on ebay for $125 so if I were you Id look on ebay for a brand new painless kit or ezwiring kit. Unless you already have it all down without the kit. -Jon
