I think you are just going to have to ask around your area, see if there are any body shops that do custom work. Most of the guy's here do it themselves or with the help of friends. There are some guy's on here that own shops, Earl Schieb comes to mind. Maybe one of them will jump in and could give you a ball park figure.

Let us see a picture of the car.

    Good luck

Back when my bro in law owned my 53 chevy, he had called a relatively local shop asking the same question..
I think he said something like 4000, or close to it, which was a number of years ago now.
And that was without any real finish work.

I ended up with the car and chopped it myself..i have about 200 bux, maybe a touch more in all the welding materials, rear gl*** and tin..lotsa work, but there's no reason to count that..
I saved wayyyy too much to worry about time, plus gained alot of knowledge as i went along.

I would agree with Bob K. Call around to see if anyone does them around you, see if the're familier with your body style and if they have any idea on cost..

I never called the place myself to get a price.
I just knew if it was more than a few hundred bux it was wayyyyyyyy outta my league.

I went thru this about 6 months ago for my 55 chev,I live in So Cal & called and talked to many shop's all over this area and a couple places in other states.

the range was anywhere from 2500.00 - 5000.00

4,000.00 - 4500.00 seemed to be the going rate I would here these figures most often.
I since then have decided to leave it alone and do other things instead and come to realize a 55 probably would not be the best car to chop.

now I am buying lots of parts,wheels/tires and accessories and I am finding 4000.00 can go a lot further than just one chop job? dont get me wrong I think Chops are very Cool,I think I just got a bit over excited about it on my car.

Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

Our shop won't touch 'em for less than $5,000, but then again our customers tend to be the kind who consider that to be front-pocket coin. One of our current customers had his '32 5w chopped by another shop for $1,500 and it came out like a dog turd. With a more complex roofline like your car has, I'd either get some books (Tex Smith's is a cl***ic), friends, and beers together and have some fun or be willing to shell out some serious green to make sure it's done right.
Last week the boss man quoted a kid in a pink minitruckin' S-10 $8,000 to chop it just so he'd quit blocking our gate. "8 large?!" he says? "Bro I only got, like, five-hunny in the thang!" I wish I owned a digital camera because boy did it show!

If someone brought a car like yours into my shop for a top chop, I'd be thinking between 2-3K before the gl*** is done. I can show you some pictures of ones I've chopped in the past. With the gl*** done, roof bodyworked in primer, window channels installed and everything ****oned up, you'd probably be looking at 4-5K It's a lot of work.

Remember, once it's cut up, it's virtually impossible to put it back to stock, and it's equally difficult to repair a poorly chopped top. But it is doable, even for the first timer. Every guy who's ever chopped a car had to do his first one sometime. Might be worth experimenting on a parts car first.
