Recently a local auto repair owner called me to ask about sending some guys by my shop as they were asking about Y-Block parts and Dave knew I had a lot of parts. Two guys showed up and they were all over what I had, but I told them I would only sell it as one lot. They told me they were on their way to a celebration of life in Porterville (CA) and would stop on their way back north in about a week, so could I inventory my parts and give them a price for the lot. They returned the next week agreeing to purchase the lot. They gave me a small deposit, (here it comes) "Could we take a few items now and we'll will be back in a month or two to pick up the balance". I knew better, but I let them leave with a Weber aluminum flywheel, a set of Tomas rocker arms and a lower crank pully for a Thunderbird blower. I consolidated all the parts and texted him that they were ready for pickup, but that I needed to know their dates so I would be here. They answered back "Not Interested". I won't name names, but they are from Battle Ground, Washington. My bad judgement for allowing any parts to leave before full payment, but they had a line of bullshit a mile long. Be careful who you deal with. Be aware of the dickheads that talk the talk but don't walk the walk!

Hopefully the deposit they left you covered the value of the parts that they took with them. Have you contacted the auto repair shop owner who sent the guys to you to let him know what they did?

    You won't name names...???
Well, they certainly 'gotcha'. What's done is done, but now you are going to let them off the hook by keeping their identity a secret. I geuss they win and can move on to fleecing the next guy. They should be happy with that result.

I have no use for a low life that steals from a person , and damn well knows he is stealing . I had a friend recently had a similar event happen to him . I think I heard something about a road flare went off in the front seat of a truck early in the morning . But not sure .

They’re worse than dick heads They are scum buckets.
I’d be scouting eBay, Craigslist, FB market etc. If you see your parts report back here someone might post on their ad “looks like USMerc Utes parts, where did these parts come from etc etc”

I knew a guy who did that to everyone he met. people drove cars into his shop and after thousands of dollars spent and trying to do what they could with the justice system they brought what was left of them back home on a trailer.
did it to the machine shop, the parts house, the paint guy, his landlord everybody.

I live in Battle Ground, WA. This is my home. It isn't a big area, 100 blocks north/south, another 100-150 east/west. I expect this behavior from those south of the border (portlandia ) but I hold this area to higher (mostly inhaled) standard.

I know a lot of people here and most of the car guys. We have a lot of HAMBers that live here too. We should know who we are living and dealing with.

I am a Nice guy,,, proof that "Nice guys finish last".
When going thru one of my 'life adjustments',
I held the position of service mechanic and pump jockey.
One day the boss ( old chum from high school ) and I were chewing the fat,
when I mentioned about satisfying the customer.
    He taught me this:
When they drive in here, they are a suspect.
When they inquire about repair work, they are a prospect.
When they pay the bill for services rendered then: Only Then are they a customer.
The Mention, in your post about celebration of life,
to me, just means that they are used to deceiving others for their own benefit.
And that really pisses me off.
Get your stuff back. Don't feel bad. Don't feel sorry.
You obviously want to avoid vengeance. It is not that, it is, Your stuff YOURS
Your friends in the area will stand with you.
If not you certainly give the thieves a chuckle, and confidence to find some more free stuff, from other guys, who share the good feeling of being a 'Car guy'
And They Will. It's Up To You.It takes action
Read my signature. Understand, this ain't that.
This is doing the the right thing.
    :):)

  23. As Tow Truck Tom implies, that celebration of life in Porteville was just a sentimental lie. I have sold stuff here the same way as USMercUte describes but i let them take some of the heavy or bulky stuff first and the deposit has to match the value of said stuff. Difference here the hobby is a small world and so are the daily driver cars guys show up in. There is a sort of logic then in asking to take some stuff in advance if you have a small car and no towbar. Now holding on to stuff for a month or two is really stretching things .

  25. Why even bring it up in a thread if you're going to protect the guilty? No offense meant, just wondering..

I hope this doesn't go too long, but this is a mistake to remain silent. It's not brave or "...bigger man..." in any way.

I've been fucked over a time or 3, insulted, falsely accused of things, etc. I learned long ago that all I have to do is TELL THE TRUTH. Had a guy call me a liar in my own shop. This was after more than a year of antics and comments that were getting old and tiresome. He had a chance to recant, he didn't. I threw him and his job out of my shop. It was a full restoration on a 34 Packard and I had at least $150K worth of labor yet to do.

Another used me to complete a car deal. I was the only one who knew every part related to the deal and gave him a full day and lots of labor dragging shit from his basement and then following everyone 25mi away to unload it all. "I need you for this Jocko and I'll pay you well to help me get this done." I'm not greedy, I wanted $500 for making sense of it all and logistics and of course labor. "Well I was gonna make sure that you got the work." was what he thought "...pay you well..." was. The guy who got the car is one of my best friends but I needed this fuckin jadrool to assure I do his stuff?

Several know the involved parties but usually know only 1 side. I freely give em all sides including where I may have gone wrong or what could be done differently. If there's no consequence for what these pukes do they'll never stop. You should say who they are. There's a lot of "us" in the NW area. You're not helping them or yourself. You gave us a ½ truth. Go all the way.

O.K. guys, here goes. He is Ken from Hultsman Bros. Engineering. Ford Performance Products. I'm just sorry that what he did to me is going to make me treat the next HONEST guy with a lot more caution.

As mentioned before, did the deposit cover the value of what he left with?
Still not a cool thing to do you, but would ease the pain some.
