Well, since this project will most likely be similar to the others I've attempeted, it will no doubt be an endless money hole, so I officially dubbed my new project to be my new "A-Hole"! I know this is a traditional board, but I am going to be using this a my DAILY driver so I am using disc brakes and a SBC, because I have a TRADITION...getting to work everyday! We are using a fully boxed A-frame, 4-inch dropped I-beam axle w/disc brakes, 4-bar front and rear. The SBC is bored .60 over with Keith Black flat top pistons 10:1 comp, 202 heads, roller rockers, 4-bolt main, 750 Speed Demon double pump carb, fully balanced with HEI and ****** header bolted to a 350 ****** with a Hughes 2000-2500 stall converter. As for the body, somebody cut and tacked but never finished so i'm thinking about another 1-2" need to be taked out before finishing the chop, and then we plan to channel the body, we threw the body on for these pics to get an idea. I'll keep ya post on the progress
Gonna be a sweet ride, ther ain't nothing wrong with SBC's. Hell they have been around since the 50's. I have a 28 with a SBC that I call the ****in-A.
looks like another money hole all right. while its mocked up you should add a seat and try to sit and look out the windshield. might be the best time to double Z the frame instead of channeling a chopped model A. just a thought
Yea, were gonna Z the rear some and i knda croutched on the plywood and there aint squat for room, but i'm pretty lanky so I twist myself in a knot as long as the A looks right! heh-heh
Steve, finally pictures of this mysterious coupe you mention! I agree with the double Z idea. If you do it so the Z is behind the firewall, it looks like it is channeled, but has more room inside. It looks like a real nice start for the project. All projects are money holes.....
Steve I was glad to see that your post did not pertain to an oraphace. Looks like your off to a great start. Body appears to be pretty darn straight. Model A's are pretty light, you should be doin some damage on the strip. If I can ever find your house, I would love to check it out in person. Let me know if you need any help on it. Dad's got a bunch of A connections if you need anything. After restoring A's for 40 years he's knows a few folks and where to get stuff. Congrats! crease Barons So Tex
Hey Crease, thanks for the offer. Actually I have the car at a buddy's shop, I helped him finish and paint a '48 in trade for shop space and welding so its not at the house YET, after we do the fab work, i'll probably finish and paint at my house. If your still doing the Sunday Taco Meet I'll explain where the shop is so you can come check it out.
Heres the 48 I just help finish, its Corvette Bronze Mist (Nice big flakes) and Sierra Tan, this is my buddies car, he picked the colors and wanted flip-flop flames so this is what i layed out then we both shot the color and clear. Its air bagged w/18" a little to billety for my taste I tried to talk him into color matching Gennie wheels with deep solid in the rear but he was blinded by his gold chains hah-hah. Oh well free shop space and free Argon makes it worthwhile.
forgot the damn pic. Thats me driving the **** out of the 383 stroker thats in it, had to take out 6 months of sanding frustration so i wouldnt go "postal"
Crease..after what i paid for that damn Dynaslow rebuild, I gotta couple EXTRA oraphaces and some bite marks on the back of my neck!!
two things mate... number one, i think the chop height is good, particularly if it's to be a daily driver. number two, is it just me, or does that 48 not have any gl*** in it?
AUTOCOL..yur right..no gl***, we literally just finished all the wiring and stuff and decided to take it for a run down the street. We still have to attach the hood and we'll do that when it comes back from the upholstery and gl*** shop. Nuthin like getting bugs in your teeth!!! Reminds me of my old Harley days. Hey Slick Willy welcome aboard....and I dont even wanna guess whats "slick" about ya!!
