Man I think i have been converted to like louvers. I keep staring at this thing. holy ****. I always asociated louvers with pink and teal 57 chevy hoods with 14 million louvers. but this is cl***y and ***y all at the same time.

Aw SLAMIT, louvers go back so much farther than pink and teal '57 Chev's! Hell, they go back way past Hot Rods! Look at all the old airplanes, equipment, and then - race cars... Cool stuff in twenties and thirties on race cars.

I know this post is very self serving, and I very much appreciate Brady starting it. My question is, would you guys mind if I post a couple other pictures of things I've done? I try not to use the H.A.M.B. for blatant commer******m, but if there is any interest in seeing the type of hood we'll be doing, and another '32 five window deck, roof, and hood that I have done I'll post them

    Please post!
Also... do you have any pics of a 53-55 f100 with the hood done?
Not sure how it would look.

Shoot, I was hoping to find a picture of my 53 with the hood all done up but can't find it. Here's a teaser of the rear though while I keep looking

This was built before I could afford a digital and I was horrible about taking photos in general.

#2 Dakota for me, Chip's work on the hood. 1992 or 93? Can't remember

Well I had some positive responce to my question earlier, so here goes. The deuce is in my opinion the coolest '32 five window you have never seen... belongs to a good friend of mine that said "go wild, and do something cool", and I think I did. I was inspired by the Ray Brown deuce roadster from the late forties and it skipped pattern. Cool thing with this one is, if you stand on a second story and look down on it, it flows at a constant width all the way from the grill shell to the tail pan. ***** yes, but that's how my brain works!
Sorry for the smaller pictures, I haven't learned how to resize yet! You know the drill though, just click on them and they will enlarge...

Ok, last one I'll add into this and then we'll let it go. Geezerkat had asked back on page one about a '49 Merc hood. Here is one that I did a year or so ago. I like this pattern best because it addresses the taper of the hood and the hard diagonal lines at the back edge of the hood. makes the louvers look like they belong there. The camera makes it look a little "off", but I promise it's not.
And I'll throw a couple of a '29 hood I did today for Joe Clifford's closed cab truck. His are my smaller 2 1/2" louver.
Also, one "action"shot of Brady's decklid on my press.
    Thanks guys, Chip Quinn

Fatbob, If I did that pattern again these days, I would change it a bit by pulling the rear hinge brace out temporarily and moving the pattern back about three inches or so. That would kill some of the "nose heavy"kinda look on that hood. I have also revised my dies a bit since I did that one so that my center lines are allot narrower, and I can "skinny up" the louver center lines a bit at the front. It would still look very similar, but just a bit better. It's all part of the development and making it better as go game!

Cool. Is it better if the hood is void of any paint? I ask because it will be a while before I hit it with paint but it has its 40+ year old paint on it...

Chip may or may not be experiencing technical difficulties at the moment.

I know his preference is clean bare metal... No paint.

Fatbob, As Steve said, yes. I prefer the metal to be stripped on both sides, but please don't sandblast it before you bring it to me. I use the 3M dry strip method in my shop. It works quickly and effectively and doesn't cost an arm and a leg for me to do if you want. The reason for no sandblasting is that it work hardens the metal, and very slightly effects the shape of the louver itself. Just kinda trivia stuff, but it makes a difference.

These aren't the best pics, but here's a few from different angles of my GTR. I wanted to do something functional and really cool too. Needed to get engine bay heat exhausted and I didn't want to space the rear hinges like so many in the 'tuner' community do. I've always liked the louvered look on hot rods and such so I started searching the Phoenix area for the service... time and time again when I called different shops, they all said 'go to Chip'!

I originally stumbled across this forum and his contact info by a google search of his name. Had the work done and it's awesome. Very functional and really freaking cool. I get asked about it all the time and I give people his contact info. :)

    Thanks Chip.

Just had to say THANKS to Russel W for ressurecting this thread! Hope the O/T stuff doesn't get deleted though... Great heavy duty action shots! Anybody else wish we would see hot rods doing this stuff? I have fun doing late stuff too. You can only do a deuce hood so many ways ya know!
