I have a question and please excuse the ignorance. I can understand the hood louvers for higher pressure air from the grill in the engine compartment, and heat. but what do louvers on the trunk lid do for aerodynamics? is it more for aesthetics?

Actually, there is a thread here on the HAMB that discusses that very thing.

Think of it as an Easter Egg hunt and use the SEARCH function to try and find it.

    Have fun! ;)

They help vent high pressure from beneath the deck lid itself. If you look at old dry lakes and early Bonneville pictures, it's common to see the faster cars going through the timing traps with the deck lid open at about half mast. The pressure would build to the point where the deck would unlatch itself and open. Deck louvers solved that problem.

Love the cheesegrater on that 32!
what's fun is keeping each punch lined up to the row parallel to it.
Once you veer off, it's all over from there.

    that's where a laser(non-traditional) comes in handy.

Can't say it was our idea. The press was at Rod Powell's shop for close to a year(?) When we picked it back up, he had mounted it on there. My dad and I looked at it, and said "damn, why didn't we think of that?"

No problem man. I figured you might want to see what it looked like on the car anyhow.

I've another project I'm working. I think I'm going to need some major louvering done too. :)

It's a 77' Celica Coupe. It's going to wind up being an AWD 1JZ turbo powered Time Attack killer. Gutted and caged, lowered and flared, etc... Sky is the limit kinda thing pushing around 450HP...

It has just enough of a cool vintage import look to it to really stand out a****st the vast numbers of EVO's and WRX's too. :)

This is it! Not a spec of rust and perfect straight. :)

Cool Russell! The one thing they get a bit uppity about around here though is O/T pictures... I have saved all of yours to my gallery so I have them, and YES a big thank you for posting them! I can't wait to do my thing on your latest deal too! I know you had to join here just to post these, (and I do very much appreciate it) but might I suggest a sister sight to the H.A.M.B. for your stuff? It's called DOGFIGHT Magazine. It is truly *****in' in all senses of the word and your stuff will fit right in with the shall we say the "WAY more advanced than tuner kinda stuff" out there. Thanks again man!

after awhile the oldtimers at the lakes discovered when going faster and faster that the rear end was getting lighter, and lighter. then there were all kinds of fixes going on. Installing weight, engine move back, engine in back, then one guy turned it around 'literally', and actually gained some speed with the body backwards! -- coupes n roadsters--

Thanks czuch... The historical marker gig is for true! I can enthrall or annoy any p***enger just moments after departure. Got one good friend that still won't talk about the "tomb of Arizona's camel driver" incedent!

I thought I would take advantage of this thread popping up one more time and show you guys something I did awhile ago that has recently garnered some ink. I did the pattern for these for squeeges' awhile back, and low and behold, The Rodders Journal #51 comes out and there they are on page 121. One of my favorite projects ever! ****, my scanner isn't scanning - guess you get the befores...
