I Guess My Car Is Offically A Rat Rod Now.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INLAW MODEL A, Mar 13, 2008.

  1. I am not really sure on the rat rod thing either, but I do know that my kids, my dad, and I built this car, I built it well and it is not cobbled at all, I have $8,000 invested in it so far and the body was free, and it's not finished. I probably will lets the kids paint it when they are ready to try their hand at it. I plan on patching all the rust at that time. I consider it to be in a final mock-up stage right now, and it will come back apart one more time. I really don't care what it's called. All I know is that my wife and kids love it, my dad wants to prime it, and it keeps us all enthused about old cars, and hot rods.

you got to be kidding, the kid that purposely used a vehicle in an altercation causing damage, didnt get thrown in jail for attempted murder? or use of a vehicle as a weppon? Friggen judge shoulda been punched in the FACE![/QUOTE]

Nope, no joke that's the way it happened. I was sittin' by my son in court, and could not believe what the judge said. I talked to him a few months later and was even more sure that he should never sit in judgement. It's a small town,it's who you blow!:D

  3. I didn't have any trouble getting an agreed value policy for my '50 Chevy from State Farm. But I only made it for $2500. I have maybe half that in it with a lot of work to do before I'd drive it every day.

Whereas one company I called basically gave me a lot of runaround about the car not being painted nice and all that. The agent I finally talked to after arguing with the broad who initially took the call, had me so pissed off I came damn close to telling him straight up to go **** himself.. I think I did tell him I was going to make a point to spread around the internet not to do business with them, though. I don't know how a company like that can even stay in business. I forget their name but they're based in Pennsylvania.

I hate the term rat rod,and I hate anyone who would call anything I've built a rat rod! Rat rod is a slam used by "Street Roddrers" to discredit low budget, home built, traditionally inspired quality Hot Rods. It has led a lot of unknowing folks, that don't know better,to build pieces of ****. By nature, and often necessity, many Hot Rods are in a constant state of construction/destruction and usually only get pretty after the have reached mechanical Nervana. (near Nevada) Hot Rod means better performance in speed, and handling for the rods intended use. Rat rod means, "this is as ****py as it gets." Don't park your rat rod next to my legitimate piece of ****!

Instead of making us play a cute guessing game, what insurance company is jacking you around? Without that info, this thread is worthless.

I have used State Farm for insuring my Hot Rods since 1973 and have never had a h***le. I always provided an appraisal and photos. I currently have 2 fenderless 32 Ford suede cars with them, 1 at 45,000 and one at 80,000. I wonder what will happen if I ever have a claim?

  10. The insurance company is Cl***ic Collectors. They bought the company that has my other vehicles policies. They aren't treating me bad, they just think my car is ****py because it's not painted. It was actually called a rust bucket a**** other things, but it is rusty. I guess the concern would be I would only get $10k if it is stolen or destroyed. They can't replace it for that. I am planning on fixing the rust and we will then paint it. Until that time though I plan on driving the hell out of it. I actually had the whole family out in it today, and yesterday I took my mom for a ride. No one complained about it. The kids like all the rubbernecking attention the car gets. I may have to rattle can it to make it more of one color as opposed to the rust.

You can see a bit of my car in my avatar -- I had no problem with Hagerty, but that may be due to my car's "provenance"

Suggestion: Have "chadillac" photoshop it and send 'em that picture.
