I grew up in Oregon, in the '60's and 70's in a White and Turquoise 1960 'New Moon' singlewide trailer on a farm between Salem and Silverton. There was a half mile or so of alfalfa fields between our house and the Mennonite church, flanking the long straight strip of Sunnyview road. The guys from town would come out and drag it, the locals would too, it was basically a proving/testing ground, a walk the talk strip of rural public road. At night, through the walls of our trailer, we'd hear the winding up in the distance of some over-cammed, over-carb'd under-engineered Nova/Mustang/Super Bee (insert make and model here) and my dad and I would run for the door to catch a glimpse. Man, that was some great s*&t. One of the neighbor guys told me that Marty Johnson's blue '67 RS Camaro had 11:1 TRW pistons in it. I had no idea what 11 to 1 meant, but I'd lay in bed at night thinking about the sound Marty Johnson's Camaro made, or Steve Steven's green metallic 440 4-speed Super Bee, and wondering why it changed the beat of my heart. Still does man, still does.
