has anyone built or seen a rear-engine sedan like this? i got bored and started thinking of crazy rides.. flat mint green with green tint on all windows, blown with intake sticking out the roof, headers out the window. the huge motor and shortened wheel base says suicide all over it, hints the name "Kamikaze Kustoms" any thoughts?? i added another photo with a 32 shell. i also made it "Deuces Friendly".
hmmm . . im on the fence. never seen one like it. almost has a vw front end. . .which isnt bad or good. definately lower in the rear. but it could be very cool
Best drive train for it would be one out of an old eldorado or toronado. Not sure how close you could get that to the rear of the car, but it would be my first choice for something like that.
it really dose have a schnoz on it. i wanna shorten the wheel base but couldnt come up with a better front end.. i kindda just made a fat track nose :/ Needs improvements!
Hmmm, let's see. V-drive, yes, as that'd allow you to use a manual gearbox. It's not that hard to assemble out of 4x4 bits. It'd put the shifter between the seats where you want it, but unless you build a suitable linkage the pattern will be reversed. I'd tend to go for IRS to obviate the need for a lot of axle clearance. I think the axle needs to come forwards a bit, either so the grille shell sits in the stock position in relation to the axle or just behind the axle. The short nose might generate a geometric problem in that the taper from the cowl to the shell will be quite sharp. I somehow don't like the idea of narrowing or tapering the body. Perhaps start the taper from the A-pillar forwards? Either fill the shell with an aluminium panel and run a rear radiator, or run the radiator in the shell. Key to this, though, is to steer clear of the "Kulture" clichés (Klichés? why am I thinking that's going to stick?) and to take a good rigorous look at the more radical early lakes/salt or drag cars. Do some research. Put yourself in 1940 or 1951 or 1959 or 1964 or whatever: but the real one, not the fantasy; and think how you'd blow 'em away. I'm subscribed: I'd like to see where this goes.
I think it might work if built as a vintage drag car, like a "Green Crate" of sorts with the motor in the back just like some of the vintage drag T roadsters or Bville cars had. But as a street car? Where is the Purple People Eater when you need it? Gary
