Truth is I love them, but I hate having to clear away the***** to get them out. I found a 1937 Desoto on Craigslist listed as just a body and frame, called him and learned it was a rolling car just missing motor and trans. This car has been sitting in this particular barn for over 25 years just outside of El Dorado, Kansas. You can imagine the***** that has built up around it and in it over the years. Inspecting it further it actually had more***** inside it than around it, I have seen worse but it was still pretty interesting. And by***** I mean animal*****, you name it, squirrel, racoon, cat, possum, mice, rat...........God knows what disease I have now from rummaging around in it. Anyway, I got there before the seller got home from work and his wife said to have at it so I started the task of changing a couple wheels and getting it ready to roll out. I used the rafters and a ratchet strap to jack the car up. Id did finally give way and suprisingly enough the brakes were not locked up and it actually rolled like a champ. Gotta love these old Mopars. The seller finally got home and I think he was glad to see it out and rolling because I saved him from any real dirty work. I took some pics with the cell phone so they may not be the best but you get the idea. Barn finds are pretty cool, even if it wasn't a roadster or 3-window Deuce. My plans are to sell everything but the body and keep it for a project I've been wanting to do for years which is a 38 Dodge 4-door sedan. I know where a decent 2-door 38 Dodge is so that will be the donor for all the other parts I will need. If anyone needs Desoto parts just let me know. Also, he had a 51 Hudson 4-door for sale too not running but in decent shape, better than the Desoto. I think he wants $800 for it but he is motivated to sell it, I don't have the room for it. Let me know and I'll get you his contact info.
IM usually so happy I got the car I dont worry about it. I think that is part of the fun, is figuring out how to get it out of the barn or garage. Nice car!
No the bumpers were one of the other things that was gone, probably some hot rodder robbed them years ago. Hood and sides are there just in the back of my pick-up. Yes, I think I get more enjoyment out of finding them and figuring out how to get em out and home. My own form of hunting I guess.
