my condolences, I know it's hard. I remember putting my first dog to sleep. The most loyal and obediant Doberman that I grew up with. Had him when I was 5 and had to put him to sleep when I was 17. It was like losing a brother. Once again, sorry for your loss.

When I went to pick my dog up from the vet the music on the radio couldn't be worse. They were playing Eric Clapton, Tears from Heaven. I'm 6'5" and 280 lbs and cried like a little girl.

You have my sincere condolences, our pets are members of our families, and we greive for them just like any family member. We lost our beautiful golden retreiver to cancer a few years ago,and we said no more dogs, but the house was so damned quiet,we adopted a "golden retreiver mix" at the animal shelter and he has become a member of the family also.

Sorry to hear that man. I'm sure you loved your dog, I know I love mine. I hate to think of the day I have to do the same. I've been nursing my 10 year old Lab since last Thursday. Seems he decided to run through a bed of hot coals left after I burned a huge pile of limbs. Vet says he has 2nd degree burns on his feet and he won't walk till he heals. Now I'm carrying an 80 lb dog outside so he can take a piss for the next two weeks! Good thing I eat my Wheaties!

  8. Sorry for your loss. Lost my best friend Shannon over a year ago. Still look at her picture every day when I sign on here. If you think of the good times you shared, they will always be with you. I still talk to her out loud when I need a friend, even though shes not here with me I know she still can hear me.It takes time to heal is all. :)

    Hey Matt,
Sorry to hear about Rowdy. I know how much it hurts. I hope I go before my boys do....I don't know if I can stand losing them.

Sorry to hear about it, it seems like it takes me years to get over losing a dog, then I still think about each of the dogs I've had over my short life every single day. I Think I'm going to start keeping pairs of them so I can have one to lean on just in case.

I was really saddened to read about your loss. I hope, with time, you'll be able to remember all the good times you shared and to be comfortable with the sad decision you had to make.

As a vet, I can share with you that the loss of a pet is a really hard part of our job, even when we know that we are doing the kind and only fair thing. Sometimes we can treat our pets with more respect for their lives than we treat our fellow humans. If you've ever lost a family member or friend to a long bout of an incurable disease you'll know what I mean.

Yesterday, I started my morning euthanizing three pets, all for loving families. One was a dog with continuous seizures, one was a retriever with bone cancer and one was a cat who suddenly couldn't breath (he had cancer, too). All relatively young, all unquestionably untreatable, and all very disturbing to all of us in the hospital.

May all of your current and future pets have the best and healthiest of lives.

my mom and stepdad adopted a german shepard one weekend when i was away with my dad as a surprise for me, i guess i was about 13. i came home on sunday and the dog freeked out seeing me for the first time, she was instantly attached to me. ive had dogs before but none liek her, i didnt really get along with my mom or stepdad at the time but in about 3 weeks the dog turned into my dog, no one in the house wanted to pick up crap or walk her. she became my absolute best friend. when i started driving i used to take her all over in my car or truck. she got some kind of tumors and eventually had to b put down, i wasnt ther efor it i got the news at work, it killed me, they asked if i wanted them to wait so i could see her one last tiem and although i wanted to see her again, the last thing i ever wanted was for her to suffer any longer. getting all sappy typing this. after that i swore id never get another dog for the rest of my life. it hurt so bad. about 3 years down the road i moved out with my girl, she kind of wanted a dog fro mthe pound i told ehr we didnt have th etime and stuff, she never had a dog, didnt really know what was involved, then a few months go by my brother called me and asked if i wanted to save a dalmation from going to the pound, before he could finish i told him what are you nuts? no dogs! by the end of the week i had called him up, so about this dog... that friday i told my wife we had to go to this guys house to see something we took a ride and bang on the door, the guy was about 30 had about 12 friends over playing poker drinking having a good old time, the dog starts barking loud as hell im thinking no way is that a dalmation. we go inside and hes all over us, she fell in love with him and the guy asks if we want to walk him, on the walk i asked her so what do you think? you want a dog? took him home and man what an awsome dog he turned out to be, so good that after about a year and a half my wife sees another dal on petfinder i stopped on my way home from work on a rainday looked at him, 4 times we went to the pound that day brought him home and after 3 days we swore it wouldnt work, he was on borrowed time at the pound so he wasnt going back there, we tried to find him a good home and after about 3 moths he became a permanent resident. when something like this happens i swear the best thing you can do is go and rescue an animal from a shelter. sometimes you look at him and you would swear he is sitting there thinking man this is great thanks for saving my ass. these guys get older everyday and i dread that day, its going to be real tuff for my wife and i. its a great feeling knowing you gave them another opportunity though.

I'm sorry for your loss, I'm a real dog lover and rescue Great Danes, I currently have 4 living with me, and dread the thought of losing them.
I'm battling cancer in my Great Dane Annie right now. More dogs die of cancer than any other reason including old age, and I believe it doesn't have to be that way. DIET, DIET, DIET!!! Yes many dogs live long lives on kibble, but many do not, dogs are not meant to eat corn, wheat, and other grains.
When I finally got Annie to a vet she was already in an advanced stage of lymphoma, 2 different vets gave her less than a month if I didn't go with Chemotherapy (average life after dx is 4-6 weeks)- I didn't. Instead I started doing a lot of research, and started trying to apply what I found to help Annie.
If any of you are fighting cancer, either K9 or human, 1st get them off grain, sugar, and carbs, Dogs need protein, cancer needs carbs, then google Dr Johanna Budwig, then google Essiac, also I'm giving her colloidal silver and tomorrow I will build a generator to make my own, read and learn as much as you can. Don't trust conventional medicine, since it is too often just a pawn of the big drug companies.
I have put a lot of time into Annie, and sort of came up with my own regimen from what I've learned, keeping some things and abandoning others, but she's in her 9th week and though she is still swollen her condition seems to have improved some since she was diagnosed. She still runs and plays, for the most part has stopped peeing every time she lays down, and really shows no sign of sickness other than the swollen lymph nodes. I haven't started the Essiac yet, but I'm hopeful that it will help rid her body of the toxins and alleviate some of the swelling. If I do have at least a modicum of success, I'll do what I can to share it with others so they can build on it, There's no damn reason that we should be losing so many loved ones to this disease! I just wish I was smarter, for Annies sake.
Sorry to get so long winded, I wish I could go into more detail, but there's just too much to discuss here. I just want people to know, that I believe you can help cancer patients live longer happier lives, and maybe even cure them completely, if you just stop trusting everything the Dr.s say, but maybe I'm wrong, only time will tell. Peace and God bless anyone going through this

I know some poeple are going to be deeply offended.....but I think the HAMB needs a special section for dead dogs and sick relatives.....it seems like once a week someones dog dies....what does this have to do with building traditional Hot Rods??

I have a pet squirell and a pet skunk, but I'm not going to talk about them or say when they die
