Down Under we run the Celsius temperature scale. It only goes to zero Celsius (32F) for a reason…no snow Switch to the metric system and you will never have to shovel the sunshine out of your driveway It will readily do 43 C (109F) in summer though. Funny, I don’t miss the lack of A/C in my cars… a little sweat is a small price for the big grin driving them. cheers, Harv
Honestly bout the only time I normally go to Sedalia is if I want BBQ and Dont wanna go to KC. I love bandana bbqs brisket lol
I hate winter also .... it is just such a on or off gloomy time. Today it was actually pretty decent and warmed up to 63 degrees and nice to work outside. Yesterday it was 45 degree as the high and it sucked to be outside working. Just saying today is a good day to be alive, lets do the best with what we have.
I used to love winter. Life began at 8600 RPM. ⅛ mi drags in front of the lodge. Felt like 2am street races in the city (did y'all figure it out yet?)
the short, cold, wet and grey days do make me look forward to open wheel roadster weather.. I'm reminded of a plaque my grandfather had hanging in his house when I was a kid, it went something like; As a rule, man's a fool. When it's hot, he wants it cool. When its cool, he wants it hot. Always wanting what it's not. ..but I don't think I ever wished for the long wet winters and not being able to drive my hot rods.
At least you have your health to enjoy the hobby. I have not worked on my truck in over a year, back surgury sidelined me. Just getting to the point I will be able to do a limited amount if it warms up enough to, the better half does not want the heat on in the garage for the limited time I would be able to work.
I can't wait to drive up to the town of Winter Wisconsin after work today. Cabin on the lake, quiet, peaceful, ice fishing, cap fire and beers on the lake. Wisconsin winters are long but it gives a good amount of garage time to work on the hotrods. I have family in Phoenix........no thanks.
There's ALWAYS maintenence, upgrades, rework, improvements to be made to any rod. Winter is the best time for that. November to March will find me in the workshop.
I'm originally from Dubuque, Iowa, But I hate cold. U-haul trailer and an old Chevy truck were my ticket outta that stuff. If I'd known how cold it CAN get in Atlanta (14F last week), I probably wouldda kept going south. I think the roads still go away from most of those places.....
I know the feeling about hating winter. Can drive you to do desperate actions to go for a ride and hear loud pipes again. My former ride a few years ago.
I've lived on the other side of the state from you, 7 miles from Lake Michigan, and I've lived in West Texas. I can deal with snow and cold in Michigan, but until you've been in a Blue Norther in Texas, you haven't experienced cold. The wind and cold comes down and there ain't nothing between you and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence.
I honestly do not mind winter, it is a chance to do some needed maintenance on the cars. Yes I have a heated shop (in floor heat) I just assumed that everyone did. If you don't have a heated shop why is it that you don't? Honestly here in Mn this winter has been the mildest, easiest one that I can ever remember, I think there have been 3 snowfalls, each of one inch. It is going to be in the mid 40's all next week. Today I am going to the annual vintage snowmobile show (midwest ride in) and there is ZERO snow on the ground here, totally unheard of. Here is what I tell people that run and hide somewhere warm (florida arizona etc) for the entire winter . "If you are not strong enough to deal with a Mn winter then get out and stay out"
Imagine hell, I live it! I’ve got a roof and two sides, ac in winter and heat in summer! If the temperature ain’t just right, I ain’t doing squat! And the other reason my shop area doesn’t have heat—-MONEY! I don’t have enough!
I dislike winter also, we had nice November and most of December .. then about 12/22 it hit and we locally here got hit hard . 40 + inches in 12-15 days and lots of wind had mild temps last few days and next week is forecasted to be mid 40's
Living in Washington State (wet side) we get a little bit of rain...living here my whole life, I've learned to appreciate the sunny days.
I am guessing winter in Alabama is a little different than Northern Alberta. We just had a week of -40.
I put my cars away around the end of October when we usually begin to have pretty constant rainy weather. Then they rarely see daylight until May of the next year unless by chance we get some weird clear dry days. Not afraid of getting them wet if I get caught out in the rain, but I don't choose to leave home when it's raining, snowing, or freezing rain.
Mark, my shop isn’t heated due to money really. It doesn’t have concrete and is a steel Quonset so to insulate and pour concrete is a lot of money, could I? Probably, I seem to have other things like kids that take precedence.
