VERY VERY COOOOL I cant wait to see that rolling down the road. I worked on a Dodge motor home years ago I think it was a 70s model it reminded me of an air plane. I bet traffic will get the hell out of your way thinking there is an emergency landing in progress LMAO

Well if that thing don't attract the women nothing will. LOL. Can't wait to see where this is headed. Any thoughts of turning it into a locomotive, kind of looks like the GM Turbine Train of the Future.

    Nice find.

  14. I would highly suppest that you contact the Conferate Air group and others regarding parts that they may need for other restorations (you can get big bucks for original parts)

Hi there. I love your project.

I'm a fella from Australia with house trucks among one of my automotive interests. (I have an Aluminium bodied 1947 Albion Double decker as one of my "treasures") I always loved seeing aircraft recycled into houses. I remember, as a kid, seeing Catalina flying boats made into great house-boats.

I remember about 20 years ago this house truck made out of a DC3 /C47 came up for sale very cheaply.

I believe it was made shortly after the war, based on a war surplus lend-lease chevy maple leaf truck chassis. I also recall that the story was that the fella who built it was in aircraft maintainance and that the doner aircraft was one that had crashed during the war and left at the airstrip. After much convincing of the right officialdom, he ended up with the fuselage and built his dream truck.

These photos were taken about 10 years ago after the truck was restored.

    I SEE A VISION!
24.5 Budds, open wheels, sort of a huge wing tank lakester.
I tried getting an Argus fuselage years ago, got the old "valuable scrap aluminum" story. It ended up crushed for nothing.

  20. I'd love to have one of those to attach to my garage, move my tools into it and make it a machine shop.

Learning to rivet to aircraft specifications isn't hard and the correct tools are not expensive.... a selection of bucking bars, a bunch of 3/32 and 1/8 Clecos, Cleco pliers, some #40 and#30 drill bits, and a rivet gun and you are in business. I am assuming you have a drill motor already. If you want to do countersunk rivets you will need a 100 degree countersink as well and perhaps a microstop if you are going to do a lot of countersunk rivets. Try Avery tools, http://www.averytools.com/ to get current prices. The local E.A.A. chapter (Experimental Aircraft Association) can help you learn to rivet and you can probably get some of the members to help you with your project for free. Learning to rivet properly isn't hard. I have taught lots of people to rivet airplanes together. It takes perhaps 30 minutes for a person to learn how to make consistently acceptable rivets. After that it is like welding in that practice makes you better and faster. For your project you will need a person to drive the rivets (rivet gun end) and a person to buck the rivets (back side of the panels/shop head side of the rivets. Girls make excellent riveters (remember "Rosie the Riveter of WWII fame). Good luck with your project.
