Many of you know I have never had a garage at my house. The house was built in 1926 and at one time had a small T sized garage that burnt down. Right after I bought the place I built a large shed, we call it the "chalet" on the foundation. 10x18 with 8 and 16 foot sidewalls/shed roof. My friens joke that you can see it from space as it sits at the ttop of out sloping lot with the west peak about 20+ feet above the yard. Carla cried when We put up the walls! It is good sized but the problem with cars is the fact that the floor of it is a good 16-20" below the grade of the alley. I always thopught I could make some timber ramps to roll the car in and out but it seemed like a big hassle. Yesterday I was helping my dad with some stuff at his house using Wood I Beams. I never realized how cheap they were?! Since my shed still has no floor I quickly found that a 12" Engineered I beam with 3/4 ply on top would get my floor high enough to DRIVE the T in and out of the shed!!! I will have to get creative with the tools and such but I do have room for a bench and some othe space in the little building!!! To make a long story short, I solved my storage problem!
hey tman thanks for those stickers you sent me awhile ago when i was lurkin.hopefully me and dave@ the boys will be runnig soon get all of us up there this spring?
No Prob, I PMd Dave about my HAMBnHog Rendevous Aug 7 8 and 9. We are doing a reliability run based around Sturgis.
Nobody knows about the creative use of tiny garage space better than I do. Good luck with it and click off a few photos. Got windows in it? One overlooking the yard? Gotta have a good view from your garage......like I don't have, dammit.
No window yet Rock, but when I open the west door, I can see Skyline Drive and the big Dinosaur!! Killer sunsets I must say. I will shoot some pics.
We stuck my coupe in the basement on friday. quite a production. We had to lower it down about a 40% grade with a come-along as I steered it down the concrete stairs. I'm not looking forward to getting it out in the spring. But the cool part is now I've got a space inside to actually work on the thing. 12' wide by 25' deep. And it widens out to about 16' in the back. And it's all mine! central heat, electricity, concrete floor, 8' ceilings, its great! Tman, get us a few pictures, that thing sounds cool. Dave
No prob 413, I will try to bring some stills to the cities with me. I just needed the peace of mind that I wouldnt have to rush into my new shop project before I am ready. That or having to store the Touring away from the house, that would suck when I want to jump in it and go! We want to build our new place with the minimum amount of debt. I found 10 acres that I like and Carla loves out on the prairie. She can even have critters and I can build the future homestead! This shed solution will goive me the needed 2 years.
Yeah, that's what the basement thing is too. Just a space to work until I can move to a better shop were I can keep all my stuff in one place. right now I have my cars spread across 2 states, stuffed anyplace they will fit. Under the deck, in the house, in the attached garage, the unattched shop, the driveway, the yard... Dave
Tman, excellent solution. I contemplated building a 20x25 steel building here, but opted for the 8x12 shed when I figured out how much concrete would cost for the building. Kinda wishing I had gone for the building now and just done a wood floor as mentioned above. Ah well, at least I can still work one piece at a time! : ) Lula, I positively love that photo of your car and the garage. The floor jack and the tilting look of the pillar beside the car just makes me crack up everytime I see it.

Man, if I didn't know the little bit I know about you I'd swear you were around 100 years old. "The house was built in 1926" & "Right after I built the place I built a large shed" LOL Glad things worked out. Nothing like having a place to work on your car at home. My shop is 20 miles away, with no running water Billy
Hey Trent how the hell are you long time no talk..Just wanted to say hi and hope you have a great Holiday! marcusedell@comcast.net
Tman, if you need a temporary workbench, consider putting a 36 in solid door on the horizontal about 37in above the floor. Hinge the door with 3 hinges so the door will swing up into a bench. put a sawhorse underneath as legs, presto instant temporary bench.
