U didn't like the Turboglide??? Had a 59 with 283 and TG. What a snail! Didn't have turbo 350's yet when I had the car, stuck a 3 speed in it and it finally would go.

I've gotta say, I wanted a Bel Air for a while, and I always loved Muscle Cars since I grew up with them, but I didn't really have a dream car until the Buick came into my life, then I had a dream car, and I made it my car (this included scaring away a few people that came to look at it back when it was on Craigslist :p)

    You're right on both accounts.

Call me crazy, but, I love my "Dynaslow" tranny. Sure, it takes a second to get up to speed... But I've still passed people in the fast lane on the freeway in that car, and it's just so god damn unique that my car doesn't shift, and I LOVE it

"He found an IMMACULATE 1951 Dodge Coronet, all original"

Sounds like you'll be replacing all the original parts soon enough. You'll probably put as much work into that Dodge as you would the Buick.

The Buick looks like a lot more fun than the Dodge.

get that dodge! someone is going to buy it for you? uh, get it. you're going from a $1000 car to a $5000 car in one step and you can still make it your own-and have a nice legit car!

You love your car. I get it. I've been where you are too and I still have dreams about the one I let go and its been about 8 years. I seriously had a dream last week that I was driving my 63 Fairlane, to Texas...I've never been to Texas but I do still miss that car. For whatever reason I bonded with that car like no other before or since and wish I still had her. The HAMB is a great place to learn if you want to keep your baby and work on her slowly. I'm building a Buick too, by myself, slowly...but I wouldn't trade this experience for a car I don't immediately have an attraction to just because it's prettier....Good Luck.

if you have to pay him back for it,,Why go $5000 in debt when you already have a car you like

Tell Dad to fix up the Dodge for himself. Then you and him could cruse together. You in your Buick and he in his Dodge. But realy is this about the car or is there hard feelings between Dad and boyfiend. I have 4 girls thats why i ask. I would keep the Buick myself old cars have away of helping develop selfreliance .

When you fall in love with a car, you tend to lose sight on reality and spend more than its worth. So whats your Buick worth once its done?

Advertise the Buick for sale on Craigs List... see if you can sleep that night. This test has kept me honest. All without parting company with car or cash.

    My .02!

    Keep the Buick.

Why do the debt thing, even if it's being funded by your dad. It won't be the same having your own car free and clear!

If the Cornet is such a good deal, it would be sold already. Ya peel the skin off the Cornet, there's probibly more work than ya want.

Every time ya touch the Buick, your adding value to it.

Look at it like this; drive the Buick, put some change in your pocket and wait for the next good deal. Doing it debt free will be a great feeling when your out cruising in your ride.

What ever you decide, have fun with it!

Buy the Dodge and sell the buick to a nice 2 door owner that has been in an unfortunate front end collision. Your Dad sounds real cool.

I'm not a fan of Buick 4drs and $5500 is pretty high for a '51 Dodge.

Your dilemma is to get dad to buy something you like more than the Buick. :D
