I joined a club I don't want to be in. O/T

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Irish Mike, Aug 25, 2008.

  1. Yea, My Dad passed away last night. He was 91. We found out he had cancer pretty much everywhere a month ago and the Dr.s' gave him 12 months. He went fast (which was a relief) and didn't feel much pain. He was a hard charger (drinked/smoked) but cooled most of that as he got older. Worked as a machinest and I was told by his buddies at work that there was none better. Gave me the love of cars and all things mechanical. Smartest guy I've ever met. I miss him. Thanks for letting me rant. Mike

I would have loved if my dad would have lived to be 91. I know it don't feel right but it sounds like he lived a full life. Be thankful of that. Sorry for your loss, Keith

    Sorry for your loss, Mike.
I lost my real dad when I was 12. He was test pilot and pretty wild guy. One plane finally bit him. I worshipped him. My step-dad is not a car guy, an accountant and not even in the same reality as me. But he has been a great provider and loves my mom so thanks for reminding me to give him some slack.

  21. This just breaks my heart,Mike! My dad's been gone since 05. We were close and he lived to 82. He had cancer and he was falling apart,so it was a blessing to see him not have to suffer anymore. 91 is a long life for a guy with your dad's habits. I feel for your loss buddy! See you soon...
BTW...it's a club that the roster keeps growing.

  22. Dude, sorry to hear that

I too understand, ....... I lost my Pops about 45 days before the 2007 HAMB Drags, then I lost my oldest son Cody in January 2008...... life is so very tough.
    God Bless!

  26. Sorry to hear you lost your Father.

  27. Sucky club to be forced to join.
I've been a member for a long time now; lost my Dad at the young age of 51, my mother at 63.
I absolutely know how you feel and I hate that anyone has to go through it.
What gets me through it all is my cars. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be into these things. And if it wasn't for my mother I wouldn't be here today.
I love them both and dearly miss them. It will be a long rough road but never forget the memories you have shared and it should make it easier.

    Stay strong my brother.

It gets better, he'll never be gone in the memories you have, I lost dad July 4 1996 and Ma July 23, 1997 at 62 & 60.....Not a day passes that I don't think of both of them.....Trust in him, and fear nothing....

  30. Sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. I know how it feels. I lost both my Dad and Mom to pancreatic cancer. Dad, who was almost 70, in June of 1995 and Mom, who was almost 68, in August of 1996, only 14 months apart. A very weird deal that I suspect was from contaminated well water caused by the local city dump less than a mile away.
