I'd love to see those photos! I'm keeping it for the time being, and keeping it pretty much as is - I'm having too much fun driving it to take it off the road for major changes. As long as the 265 keeps running, I probably won't do anything to it other than clean it up and maybe throw on some Offy valve covers I have laying around.
I was surprised to see no oil filter on the block, it wasn't until I did a little research online that I discovered that was the way the first-year chevy smallblocks were set up.
Spent the morning running errands in the '46. Parked at the old central Post Office next to Union Station, downtown.
love the car. been looking for a way to get into something older than my 67 f100 as a daily. i think i want a fatty sedan...
One other nice thing in these days of 4 bucks a gallon gasoline - that little SBC with the three speed is very fuel efficient, even when pushing around a big sedan.
Thanks for that photo. I'm keeping the trim around the windows, but that's pretty much how I would like this one to end up. I want a "mild" late fifties high school parking lot look.
BTW, I'm looking for a nice set of front fenders, if anybody in the L.A. area has got 'em. In an ideal world, I'd love to get the whole front clip as one piece. with all the inner panels. The front sheetmetal is outta whack on mine, and I'm not sure where to start to fix it.
Coop I to just got a 46 2-door. What is the little car sitting behind yours, looks like it has Stude wraparound rear window??
That's some crazy custom studebaker Bobby Green found on craigslist - a '37 (?) with a roof from a '50 coupe. There's a thread on the HAMB about it somewhere.
Went for a long spin through the valley today, and stopped for a quick iPhone shot in front of the Circus Liquor sign.
Yesterday we drove out to Robt. Williams house to get his blessing on the ol' beast. He said he bought a '47 tudor coupe back in the 50's for seven bucks!
Nice '46 Tudor, Coop! Dash is beautiful, great work. In 1956, my high school pal had a '46 Tudor sedan, a Super Deluxe...I envied it. When he got a '38 Coupe, I replaced its engine for him with the rebuilt one out of the sedan; his Dad gave me the sedan! I dropped the front with a Mor-Drop '32 axle, '36 split wishbone, and flattened/reversed '36 front spring. I then rebuilt the engine from the '38, and had a nice '46 Tudor that had the lowest front end at school. I sold it to finish my channeled '31 roadster, but really missed it. 1960, I bought a perfect '46 Ford Club Coupe, also Super Deluxe: No engine, I paid $12.00 for it! Later that year, it got a 296" flattie, '41 pickup box. Had it for 5 years, traded it off for a '35 flatback. Fast forward to now: Lifelong friend Marc calls me, tells me he is too busy to do his '47 Ford four door sedan...No money, he insists on making it a gift! (car is all there, the stainless strips were missing from the hood...they were on the back seat! The hood ornament was also on the seat, the car is rust free... Marc insisted I take the new dropped axle and Posie kit also...I was speechless. New shop building is nearly finished. I feel blessed.
Oh yeah, had a 42 and a 46. I really F'd up with the 42, it was a military car all o.d. and no brite work at all, everything painted o.d. And as a young punk I put all the brite work back on and a 46 front end and ruined what should have been a preserved military car. But a 16, I knew it all and changed it up, punk *** kid! Loved the other 46 with a hot 53 Merc in it, was my first engine overhaul with my Dad lookin over my shoulder, probably went thru a dozen 39 ******;s, hey 5 to 10 bucks each and could change one in a few hours, I don't think the 8:20 Double Eagles on the back were a great choice, hey they looked cool! ~sololobo~
