Maybe nowadays with flat paint being all the rage its not an issue with a lot of guys but for me an ultra shiny paint job is a must. I have always used what is probably a little known product called Astro Shield. Ive recently found out that its no longer available. Ive tried a number of other products on the market and so far havent found anything that comes close to Astro Shield. What products do you find work best to keep your paint looking good?

I've been a fan of Meguiares "cleaner wax" since the 80's. Just don't drop the bottle - it is made of breakable plastic - don't know why...

I've never seen Astor Shield, but I've been using ASTRO SHIELD Polish for over 30 years. Astro Shield was made in Brooklyn, NY. Google it and you might find a supplier. Astro Shield is the best liquid polish I have found. Cleans and protects better than any other product I've tried.

There is nothing like laying down some graphics or airbrush work then watching it really pop when you clear it. And after the buffer is put away, and the finish twinkles like the starts at night, that is awesome.

At the same time, I love laying down a satin finish as it also helps to pop the things under it. Definitely not to the level of clear but then again, one doesn't need to spend countless hours keeping it shiny and a road trip with inclement weather is far less stressful. When it comes around to slinging the paint on my '52 AD, it will have both satin and shiny!

Hey Bud, I use a wash and wax combination by Turtle Wax. It is awesome as a weekly washer. We store a few cars outside, and you'd never know it, by the looks of the cars.. NOw as far as getting a car ready for shows and needing that Show Shine, I wouldnt know as my car still isnt finished...

Good old fashioned carnuba based turtle wax, they all oxidize anyway, you may as well use one that will rub out and not haze. Keep it simple. Used Lavarniers, but it's too hard to find now.

Bull here on the HAMB sells Wizards Products. For a quick detail I love their MIST N SHINE. All I used ont eh T after compounding the new paint. Cleans up better from bugs after using it as well.

My '34 Vicky was painted black Sikkens in 1995 and my '59 El Camino was painted black Deltron in 1983. I've used everything but several years ago I tried Mother's Ice detailer. Their paste wax is excellent as well. They both dry clear.....In fact, you can use the detailer on your wheels, tires, glasss and trim as well. jmo......Mike

The only ICE product that I am familiar with is made by Turtle Wax.

Seems strange to me that a product that is touted to be so good, as many have said, as Astro Shield would go out of business.

As the story goes the owner of the company passed away and his wife ran the business for a number of years. She is now over 90 and is no longer able to keep it going so she closed the doors.I got this information from the person who is trying to buy the business from her so that he can bring the product back to market. To date I haven't found anything that works anywhere as well for me.

Go to Showcardetail.com guy by the name of Steve has a line of his own products. They are the best I have used and a very nice guy that will help you out with your car care needs. The Detail spray and his Carnuba wax are great products.

ok guys i have a question my girlfriends 50 pontiacs paint is screwy when we bought it it had a great shine one it after it sat at the house for a while .. while i fixed the rig jobs and lousy work the po did to it the paint went almost white and i havent been able to bring it back

ive used rubbing compound , polishing compound, clay bars, turtle wax, mequires cleaner waxliquid, and a few other things i can get it to shine up alittle bit then a few days later its back to looking like someone poured milk all over it

ill post a link to the pics of it in a sec so you can see the progression of the paint

in areas where the sun doesnt hit the paint directly it still shines (like under the tailights /headlights behind the bumpers

any help would be awesome
