I've met Steve and he is a very humble person. All he talked about was how the guy on the other side of the building was a fabulous artist....never mentioned anything of his own design. True artist.....and no visible ego.
First time I saw Steve's work was an article on mild customs by Ganahl in Street Rodder back in the 70's when customs were all but dead. Great article and fantastic drawings that really lit a fire. Fast forward to the 80's when Ganahl pulled R&C from the ashes. Steve had some more illustrations in another article including this one of a fastback Olds. I thought I gotta build me one of those! So, photoshopped myself this one out of a fleetline and waited patiently until the time I could make it happen. Parts in pile in garage, car on jackstands and should have brakes, wheels and tires within the month and finally on the path. Thanks Steve!
Well i didn't want to post this just yet. but i can't keep his work hidden. Here is my next project after my roadster in finished I call it my B4400 or 4dr400
Hot Rods and Hobbies in Signal Hill, Ca as a bunch of Stanfords rendering hanging on their office wall. Bob at Verns Chrome plating also has several. He just did a rendering of Bobs 60' Ford 2 door wagon. Now Bob has to built it. LOL
I finally had the privilege of meeting the master himself at the GNRS this past January... What a great, humble guy!! (I, of course, totally "Chris Farley'd" the moment... "Remember that car you drew? Awesome..." ) What a down-to-Earth human being... and an art god, all wrapped in one Izod shirt! Amazing talent. I'll stop gushing now.... and maybe even wash the hand he shook sometime. Maybe.

Wish I knew how to post a picture on here.Just aint bright enough I guess. Rod
...hell, I almost pooped myself. Not very rockstar-ish. ...man, a book filled with Mr. Stanford's work would be killer... Anyone catch his latest stuff in Hot Rod? He did some AMC concepts.... unbelievable, as always...
I've loved his stuff for a long time... I only knew it from what I saw in the magazines I'd buy. It puts it in perspective seeing guys who's artwork is amazing in its own right humbled by meeting Mr Stanford.
I saw the AMC artwork in Hot Rod Magazine, impressive! Magazine is beyond my wallet 9,20 Euros = 14$!!!!!! Well, I didn't buy that issue.
Bless you TOXICTOM. There is one illustration I would love to see, can't find the issue ANYWHERE! Think it was in Truckin' a few years back. Believe the theme was VANS making a comeback. It was a black van with Donut Derelicts on the side panel, anyone have it and can scan it?
