Here’s a few pics I took of the Bo Jones car about 25 years ago when it was sitting at Boyd’s old place in Santee? CA

    Hill Acala Modified Roadster

This was the first example of the world famous “Moon Eyes” logo. The T-Roadster wore the “00” number and once a pair of pupils were painted inside the numbers , an iconic logo was born. Noted from the Acala Family... thanks.

    Hello,

During our hot rod days, we never gave a Track-T style roadster any second looks. It must have been our liking of the “squarish” 27 Ford small grille or even the chopped version of the Model A grille. We always thought a 32 grille look funny when chopped or even on a Model A, let alone a T-roadster with a deck. Most of the roadsters had their own custom track style grilles, so, the only ones we saw were in car shows. This one was spotted and photographed by @Dean Lowe in 1959.

Here are some photos of the Hunter, Hill Acala Roadster against some powerful competition at Lion’s Dragstrip during the 1959-60 era.

In 2017, the original Lion’s Dragstrip Museum opened to the local racers and enthusiasts. The museum had several interesting displays, one of which was the original, Hill Acala Track T Roadster. It was if time stopped still in 1959 and out popped the original Red roadster with the Moon eyes. Above the red roadster was a large screen playing all of my early Lion’s Dragstrip films that my brother and I took over those days of racing and just lounging around.

My version of a Track T Roadster with its full body pan, lowered stance, and a custom track grille, the smooth flow of the modified roadster, now, fills the bill. A small 283 SBC in the place of the original Flathead motor powers the Red roadster. The highlight is the early, yellow, scallop flames and blue pinstriping.

This version could have been in the Altered/Modified/Hot Roadster Classes during the time the roadsters had their own level of competition at the dragstrips, until the mid-1960s bashing. Or, with its sleek styling, a full on high speed runs at Bonneville. So noted as non street legal, changes made... thanks.

  5. Would not have been classed a "street roadster" Junji. Not with out fenders and street legal lighting and exhaust system. Officials would have classed it an altered. I don't know much, but I know street roadsters. ;)

Great thread and so many nice cars posted. I know nothing about the car below except that I really, really like it. I hope someone can chime-in with details.

    Hello,

On one of our coastal road trips along the PCH Coast Highway in Corona Del Mar we saw a roadster (just like one of the above) turning off of Coast Highway in Corona Del Mar, near the Bandera Restaurant in the middle of the city.

It sounded cool as I rolled down my window and he turned right in front of us, going inland, down Marguerite Ave. The build looked quite nice, too. Sorry, he was too fast for my camera. (along with watching out for the heavy Coast Highway traffic)
upload_2022-6-14_4-27-40.png Or, it could have been one that looked like this version. it turned and went by us very quickly.

But, it certainly looked as if he was squeezed in place. There did not seem like the cockpit had much room, although it may have been the huge smile on the driver’s face that said it all !!!

    Hello,

One of the best photos of a modified track “T” Roadster was taken by C.Ryan Mac in San Diego. It was an outstanding night shot of the San Diego downtown skyline skirting the large harbor waterfront. The photo was taken across the bay at a Shelter Island bayfront. The San Diego "Big Bay Boom" on the 4th, starts in this area and for the next 30+ minutes, blasts the visitors with fireworks that are like no other.

It has/had 4 locations spaced evenly all around the big bay, ending up near the Coronado Bridge. The activities are a wonderful display of fireworks, one of the best in the Westcoast. Except for one year, when the button was pushed, every location shot up their full load of fireworks and the biggest finale started in one split second. The whole bay lit up to the amazement of the zillion visitors. In the local papers, it was not called the big bay boom, but the big bay bust...

upload_2022-7-5_4-9-14.png The action starts around here on the 4th of July.

My wife and I have been to that particular spot on Shelter Island, many times in the day and night in our daily driver over the past several years. But the look from the bay waters is also awe inspiring, as one is moving as fast as the wind is pushing. The location is the big channel leading out to the ocean...YRMV

Thanks Jim Reid, Prowlers of San Diego for the photo.
