    Hey Guys,

I have always admired those who can pinstripe. I have tried millions of times on various things like lawn mowers, bicycles, tricycles, trash carts, surfboards, and even on real cars. But the results always did not come out as expected and it was a little frustrating.

The skill it takes to do a great job is amazing. Patience, and artistic skill helps. I have followed many pinstripers at car shows, TV programs and recently watched Dennis Ricklefs do some art work at a local site. I still try my hand at flames and pinstriping, but, the results are the same…definitely, needs much more work.

While walking around the new Lions Dragstrip Museum, Jack Chrisman’s paraphernalia, including the chopped sedan, had its own corner. One thing that stood out was the color of the sedan and in the front grille, a massive pinstripe design. It was pretty interesting to say the least.

Maybe So Cal’s Phil W. (Philly the Greek) can tell us a little more history on this intricate design.

Jnaki , That '29 sedan was Jack Chrisman's. It was restored a few years ago by Jim Travis ( he also did Mickey Thompson's streamliner) and the original Von Dutch pinstriping was replicated by my good friend Dennis Jones , who as usual did an excellent job.

Practice obviously helps a tremendous amount, but in the end, I think people are born with the ability.

    Hello,

The pinstriping designs highlight something special on a hot rod. The large rear door of this 33 Willys Sedan Delivery just calls out for some extra detailing. The mild, silver pinstriping blends well with the blue body paint. One of many on display at the Price Automobilia Museum, Willys section.

It is the build that attracts and the striping highlights, without going overboard. It is like crossing your T’s and dotting your, I’s. “It is in the details…”

Many times, I had thought about doing some “mild” pinstriping on the rear door of the two 1940 Ford Sedan Deliveries I had owned over the years. But, skill set aside, that went by the wayside. These rear doors are a perfect area for some mild designs placed on it.

It is hard to find some deliveries that have a simple design pattern on the back. Look at the model of the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery from HAMB hot rodder/model builder, Ron Funkhouser’s display showroom.

Even as the “GRAMMAR POLICE” would criticize this saying: “That’s what I’m talkin’ about.” There would be all kinds of red marks on an essay paper that included the statement. But, it fits the bill, here.
