New box for Rich Martin's front engine digger. I guess Rich is a lot like me, we're both capable welders but when it comes to steering and stuff that really matters, especially if it involves machining also, we visit Steve at Gary Bridge and Iron
^^^ this is, to me, the worst smell on a car. Don't know but I just never ever liked the smell of 90w oil. It's one of the few things in a car that I immediately wash off my hands. Although I hate the feel of anti-freeze and brake fluid on my skin, their smell doesn't bother me. ...
I like that old distinct car smell you get when you stick your head into a window of an old shoebox ford. and why do they call it a shoebox anyway and don’t tell me it looks like a shoebox, simply doesn’t
Sometimes the smell from the neighbors BBQ grill makes me want to invite myself over, to join him in whatever he is going to eat. Not all tires doing a burnout smell the same, some down right stink! After a long winter, the smell of racing fuel (raw or burned) is pretty pleasant, but by the end of summer, not so much (for either). 30 years in the welding industry has pretty much ruined my sense of smell. I can identify most new and different smells (good or bad), but they soon blend into the background along with the other smells. My world of smell is different now then it used to be. It may sound strange, but enjoy your ability to notice different smells.
I'm with CSPIDY, the smell of an old( 60s and earlier) interior just smells so good. I also absolutely LOVE the smell of OLD engine oil and gear lube, reminds me of adventures YEARS ago in now long gone wrecking yards. Mitch,,,ALSO, the smell of the exhaust of a 2 stoke outboard on an early morning in Northern Wisconsin,,ahhhh the memories !!!
If they can make those little phones that take photos, why can't they make welding rods that smell like pizza?
Do love the smell of Heli-arc, or even TIG, but what about that smell of real old engine oil trapped under the main cap bolts?
I od'd on nitro a longtime ago. Watching Whit Bazemore in the pits do a warm up, the wind changed, I got a face full, I swear it was even a bit misty. Eyes n nose on fire, had to step away peeking a little at a time so I didn't fall. Yeah, I watched 2 more warm ups after that Some things I can't smell now, sadly flatulence isn't one of em
Please forgive my youthful inexperience, but what is Heliarc welding? I assume it’s an electrical welding process? I know about MIG, TIG, Oxy-Acetylene, and stick, and have heard the heliarc term, but know nothing about it.
Easiest definition from Mr Google: Heliarc welding is the initial version of TIG welding or gas tungsten arc welding (“GTAW”). Initially, the name heliarc was used because, as first developed, it used helium as a shielding gas.
Old musty mohair does it for me. I can still smell a hint of it in my old 37 that was changed to leather.
smell is a great memory trigger! smell of fresh cut grass, mom baking, a wood fire, the air after a rain fall, the air before it snows, leather interior and acrylic enamel are some of my favorites
For a non-auto related favorite smell, I love the smell of a wet (NOT dirty, JUST wet) dog. It reminds me of being a kid, and not hesitating to give my four legged best friend a big ol' bear hug when he came in from the rain, burying my face in all that wet fur, because I was THAT happy to see him again. Miss you, Mack!
