My older brother is here from Missouri visiting me and today he and I went to our hometown to see how things had changed. When he was a senior in High School in 1961 was when I first fell in love with old cars. His HS buddy "Randy" used to pick him up for school in a 1934 Ford 5W coupe. It was black with red wire wheels and had a flathead. I loved that car! In 1964 Randy built that car into a show car called "Depression Born" that he showed at McCormick Place in Chicago. Today while visiting in our hometown we stopped at Randys farm and he was there! He showed us the old show car just as she sits after 47 years. I also remembered that at one time he was building a 34 3W and I asked about it too. He said "OH yeah its still out here in the chicken coupe!" So I took some pictures to share with my HAMB friends! And in case you are wondering, I cant tell you where these are! :D

The 3 window must have been an old hot rod too, before it's dis***embly. Notice the chrome window moldings.

Great stuff. I wouldn't want you to tell us where he is but maybe you can tell him where We are ! Would love to hear the story behind these cars. There are a lot of details of interest.

They say you can't go back, and that has been my experience. It looks like you are a fortunate exception.

Everytime one of these "finds" gets posted it is just amazing. We drive by some garage or barn every day and never know what is in there. That maroon 34 is really sharp. He does need to dust it off and drive it though. :)

    Thanks for sharing.

At any given time there are a LOT more enthusiast cars sitting unused, apart, needing repair, or being stored, than there are ones on the road. My friend who owned a speed shop for many years says a lot of the stuff he sold never ended up on the project it was bought for.

I am a fan of early 60s local Autorama builds.

There was a thread asking about white running boards some weeks ago..

the seat in the 3W is pretty cool, too.

WOW! I just DIG those white running boards, they're spectacular! Takes me back to the Sacramento Autorama when I was a kid...that thing looks like it could be washed off and shown right now...incredible what's out there! Makes me want to go back to my old home town and ask around about some of the cars I used to see cruising around.

When I was a teenager, I wanted a '56 Nomad, a '34 Ford 5 window coupe, and a '40 Ford Deluxe coupe. I look at that 5 window, and it brings back some memories of cars I saw in Tulsa back when. Thanks for posting!

  28. sometimes just having it is enough. He built it, he's driven it, he rebuilt it, he drove it some more, and now it sits so he can remember the good times. Driving it means maintenance, and contray to popular belief, maintenance isn't the fun time in hotrodding that we're led to believe it is. It ain't a living thing, so it sitting there isn't costing him a dime.

nope if anything just adding to the interest to its value.. i mean from what iv seen collectors want either race cars, or cars with history.. here is a show car.. has to make it worth a little more than another car just like it.. i think the prices of these things are crazy but hell if people want to pay for them.. more power to them.. and this man, probably gets a kick out of it every time he takes a moment to reminisce about it.. i bet when his old friends showed up.. it was a flash back.. and he will be smiling for months to come.

would love to know more about the engine tho
    chris.
