I have a fender less glass 34 coupe body on a TCI chassis that was assembled in 1988. The gas tank is mounted at the front of the trunk just behind the seats. The filler goes up through the body on the left between the roof and trunk. The filler pipe (2” pipe) was ripped from the top of the tank during a minor rear end collision. That destroyed the threads in the tank. Since the tank is 27 years old, I thought I would just replace it. I called the body manufacturer to see what tank is being used in current builds. No idea. I emailed a tank manufacturer that got his start building gas tanks for 34 Fords. Didn't know what to tell me. Suggested a universal tank that he manufacturers. I'm thinking someone else must have built a 34 Ford coupe since 1988 and installed the fuel tank in other than the stock location. I would have no problem with a filler pipe located in the trunk. What would you suggest?
A photo of your tank might help someone identify a manufacture. I know seadog just added a tank in his 32 roadster, you might check out his thread on installing a gas tank. HRP http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fuel-tank-mounting-question.992651/
A good aluminum fabricator could measure up what you need and make it for you. That is what we did for mine.
Woodhawg is right, I am going to have one built locally out of aluminum for my rpu project. Not a big deal at all, you just have to search your area for someone who does aluminum fabrication like that, give them your old tank as a mock up, and they can do it. Cost isn't ridiculously high either. Don
