Alright the starter went bad in my 1954 ford customline with the 239 OHV V8 and 6 volt system, and i cannot seem to find a new starter for it anywhere.

Did you take it apart? If you didn't, Take it apart and see what is wrong. Might just need brushes and that would be a cheap fix. Brushes available at Rockauto.

No local starter rebuilders in your area? Check the online yellow pages for the nearest larger city.

Autozone has one just up the street from me. So does Orielly. Got a napa near by? YOu will have to change the gears out from your old one. Easy job nonetheless

Check www.electricalrebuilders.org on the left hand side of the page there is a search option member locator for rebuilders in your area.

Check also around your area for a shop that rebuilds alternators. They usually rebuild starters as well.

99% sure yblock and ford inline 6 223 are the same starter.

Lastly removal of the starter in a yblock can be a real pita. Read post 4 & 5 in the link below.

I stopped ******* around with all auto-electric components and some carburetors decades ago. I've been using the same 2 local rebuilders for 30+ years.

They rebuild MY core (very important with some starters... look for the ****ed up Chevy 350 starter threads here...) and I get a guarantee out of the deal.
