went and checked out this 1932 Chevy 1 ton truck today. Im lookin to use some of the origional frame, the cab, grill, hood, and maybe fenders to make a little pickup outta if i cant get it running. He wants $1200 for it all, with title and papertrail. Should i go for it?
just a bit of fair warning those chevys contain alot of wood that makes up the skeleton for the body , if the woods not in good shape you could have a big project on your hands , seems kinda high priced from lookin at the pics !
As was mentioned...WOOD..lots of it. Which means a lot of fabricating to remove it and build a steel skeleton. And you will have to do it with that truck..The body is literally coming apart at the seams. I helped a buddy do it with his dad's 32 chevy coupe. Lotta damn work! I'd say pass. NOT for the work, but more so because i just think he's asking way too much for what's there and what will be involved to bring it back to life. If it was a couple hundred, that'd be a different story. Just my 2 cents worth Tony
The sheet metal is not so bad, the wood is all bad...that's the GM way prior to 1937. If that bed is a big one and belongs with that truck how cool would it be to have a long wheelbase BIG pickup truck? Stick a hot 292 six in there and pull some stumps!
there are currently 2 excellant threads on the hamb about rebuilding wood frame chevy bodies. with details and ideas about replacing the wood with steel tubing. check them both out, it should help you decide if it's a project you want to get into. 1)1929 chevy full sheet metal kit car 2)1928 chevy sedan to a sedan delivery. good luck, mike
If you can fab up tubing to replace the wood.... it would make a good cab but it is a ton of work even to replace the wood.....
what are you wanting to build? what is your skill level? how weak is your stomach? there are better builders for sale here on the hamb classifieds.
I've been watching a restorer do a 34 Chevy pick-up with a wood kit made for the truck. You don't want to know what that part of the rebuild cost was........
