Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I'm using a 1948 front end, and I am taking everything apart, and installing new king pins as well. Everything came apart very easily except the spring perches (I know on a 48 front they're not called perches, because the spring doesn't attach, but I don't know the correct term).
So I have to use a little heat to get the nuts to loosen, then I tried to use a hammer and an old nut. Didn't work. Then I place the whole assembly on the press with the help of a co-worker and some other methods. The press I use is very wide, and has a moveable jack (so it is on there safely and centered to the bolt). I leveled it out, and got the press up to 3 tons (I didn't want to go more than that). I used heat rapping on it to try to get it to break loose. I then heated it again and quenched it with water. I used penetrating oil before this whole process began. Any ideas? Am I doing anything wrong? My brain hurts. Thanks in advance
