I live in Michigan and I'm trying to find a Old truck project. Well most of the Trucks in my price range in my area are in need of way to much work. I have found and called about 10 trucks off of craigslist mostly out West. 9 of the 10 people were not willing to deal with me because they were afraid of a scam. I do understand completely with all the people running scams out there. So here's my question are there a company's that can act as a third party to protect both parties involved? If there are Hopefully they don't charge a arm and leg. Thanks for any advice anyone can offer, Matt
Craigs list is sort of more a "local" thing it seems. What kind of a project are you looking for? I'd start looking here in the classifieds, get involved where you are with as many car guys as you can. Make friends. Lots of great folks in your area, this is a good way to get to know some. Remember that transporting a vehicle across country is expensive, so you can' get quite a bit of your project money wrapped in shipping. I spent 800 bucks having my Diamond T pickup hauled from Santa Fe to Kalamazoo, three years ago and thought that was cheap. Brian
I'm in Northern Cal with alot of good old sheet metal to be had. I could look around if you know what you want.
You must not be getting the right people, or else you somehow come across wrong. I've bought things from out west using Craigslist. I'm always up front that I'm looking, that IF I buy I'll pay by Paypal or however they choose, if small I ask if they will ship, if large I ask about a time frame in which I could pick it up. Many times those questions are in the first email to them. Last thing I bought was an OT 85 GMC CC dually. Flew out to Phoenix and drove it back. How are you offering to pay if you buy from them? As you said there are a lot of scammers out there and Craigslist seems to be a favorite haunt for them. I've had my share of them contacting me, you just weed them out if they sound totally off the wall
These days you mention the word PayPal and automatically scam comes to mind, even national news media is finally telling stories of fake paypal and fake e-bay sites, its hard to buy a car or truck by a picture, been there, done that and won"t happen again,if you are serious about wanting a truck throw out an ad for what you"re looking for and how far you"ll travel and see what you come up with,I saw your post of wanting to spend $6000 or under, hell you can pickup a damn nice truck for that.go to www.free antique car classifieds.com There are alot of trucks for sale in MICHIGAN that never get listed on craigslist or egay.Good luck! Just picked up 55 Ford 2-door custom 40 miles from my house, finished, running car.$3000
I don't think my screen name on here as anything to do it. I use my real name when I call people. It was a nick name I picked up as a kid that stuck with me because of a scar on my face. Usually when I call someone I tell them right away that I'm calling from MI. I tell them I'm very interested in what there selling. I explain that I have bought and sold vehicles out of State before. I usually have always done it with a Bank wire transfer. According to my Bank it's the safest way for the Seller. If they sound uncomfortable about it I tell them to check with there ban and get back to me if there interested in making the deal happen. Anyway Thank you for the advice everyone. This is a Great site I wish I would have found it earlier. Matt
Have you checked out Rickybop truck.Hes in michigan and is an alliance member and hes a good guy ...And also the truck is clean and Hes asking a very fair price.....
I have a friend in NW Missouri who's a retired trucker. He's a transporter Bobby is someone I can hand a stack of cash to and not worry about it and he will look it over for me when he gets there. One thing you can do when paying for something is use postal money orders. fill it out to the guy your buying from if you don't trust the transporter or want to prove the seller got the moneyorder from the driver or from the mail and cashed it. I always put on the MO what it is paying for so there can be no argument the casher didn't know what it was for The seller has no reason to distrust a postal money order they are prepaid in cash and are gold. they have a $900 limit on each one but no limit as to how many
Also, if you find a truck that is some distance away you can start a thread asking for help in looking the truck over. Usually, somebody will help out. Done it a few times myself. The HAMB is the best resource you can have in many cases. Being an Alliance member helps too. Good luck in your hunt.
You should just come down SOUTH to the Charlotte area with your MONEY and buy a truck. With that high a budget ... there are LOTS of GOOD trucks in your price range that meets your requirements. Just look at the Charlotte Craiglist to see for yourself.
Thanks I'm going to become an Alliance member. I was going to do it tonight but I'm going to try to get in touch with a mod about changing my username just in case some people do judge you by your username as suggested earlier in this thread.
what are you looking for and whats you budget, I'm always lookin around for stuff. If I find what you'd like I can work with you. I've sold a number of things out of state and have no problem doing so. If another area hamber would want to come out for "a second opinion" I would prefer it. Let me know.
I prefer something Chevy, Ford, or Dodge 1956 or older. (Older the Better) I prefer something with a Solid body. I don't want expect a show truck but I don't want to big of a project either. It would be nice to have an updated drive train but not a necessity. I would like to Keep the price under $6000.00. Thanks
Not mine but I think its a sharp truck. http://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/1654994836.html Also Another slick truck. http://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/1676524343.html
If Craigslist out there is anything like Craigslist out here, it is a lunatic magnet. Place an ad there and you will get every singe wack job calling you in minutes. It is almost not worth dealing with. Maybe you are seeing the other end of that. Come look out here in California. What many call a beater out here is likely better than some of the "nice" trucks there. No snow, no road salt, tons of dry desert.
I saw a 50's Chevy truck just today on Craigslist in Lansing for $4,999 with a 350/350 paint looked good, wood bed floor seemed like a nice buy
yeah, yellow one it was listed under like every city, but that sucks I hate when people sell there stuff and there never delete the ads seems like a waste of time for everyone involved...there was a burgandy one in Owosso for $5,500 as well
For that kind of money, you can buy a driver down here. I'll keep my eyes open for something. I can also serve as an intermediary if you need one.
