hey guys i got a 55.2 pickup and i bought the inner front patch and the eye brow but i have no clue on the best way to weld it in and how much to cut if any one could offer me some advice and pictures i would really apreciate it thanks kujo
Hey, I've no pictures, but I'd suggest you start by removing the paint from the area, back a good 12'' or so from the tip of the headlamp opening. Welding into rusty, rotted or filler clad metal is jus' stupid! Once the paint has been removed, you'll have a clear idea jus' where the good metal starts, and the rusted ends. If no other bad metal is within the area your patch panels cover , hold your patch panel in place with some tape, and mark an outline around the outside edges of them drawn over the fender. Cut the fender's metal to fit your patches. I'd go with a butt weld, with no gap necessary between your patches and where they fit up to the fenders. No cute little clamps, zip screws or clecos necessary, jus tack weld and straighten up the areas of metal where the two panels meet with a dolly and hammer, as you go. Given that this is high crowned in this area, you shouldn't have much of a problem with heat distortion, if you've any welding skill at all. Little or no filler should be necessary to get these fenders ready for primer and paint. " Spending a nation into generational debt is not an act of compassion!"
