So, I've got a '55 Bel Air 4dr. I want to get a set of radial tires for it.

It started life as a 6cyl, 3-speed manual OD trans car, but we've since converted to a SBC. It's a real peach, but I'm pretty sure the 3spd OD trans had 4.11:1 gears, because it's now got way too much power for the original, skinny biasply tires. (Almost brand new BF Goodrich G70-15s on it).

I've also got a set of 15x7 and 15x8 smoothies incase anyone can recommend a wider size for the rear. My aim is to keep the original hubcaps and go with a wide whitewall.

What sizes should I be looking for? I've found a decent conversion chart, which shows me I should probably run 215/70-15 or 235/65-15. Cokers have the 215s for $247/ea. Anyone able to give me some advice?

    Thanks!

The bias plys can handle it.. I say keep them. Id take a set of bias plys over radials any day.

FYI 15x8's will not go up under the rear fender wells

Thanks, guys - I'll stick with them for a while longer.

    Didn't know a 15x8 wouldn't fit in the rear - thanks.
