I really would like to able to enjoy driving my Desoto. It just runs real sludgilly, if that's a word. Certainly needs tuned. I need some help getting my carb/ignition dialed in and some help testing my charging system and narrowing down why the battery isn't charging (Volt reg I ***ume). Anyone sorta near me that can lend a hand? Everything is stock 1953 276 Hemi.

I've recently rebuilt the carb (rebuilt accelerator pump too), the generator, polarized the generator, new battery, new plugs, new wires, new points, timed. Idles good. Cruises good. It's the 1-25mph that's a little rough. I think it might have a cylinder not firing, too, I can never quite tell.

I'm just out of ideas. Commons Auto in SSF won't touch the carb. I need some BRO help.

do a compression test and also a leak down test to start with so you know all cylinders are good, then go from there...vaccuum leaks, mis fire...

I appreciate the advice, but I'm looking for an actual living person to communicate with in real life and who can help me in real life figure out what I can't. I think it's called, a bud! A pal! A broseph. I've pretty much reached the pinnacle of my technical abilities on my 45 degree driveway.

Bump for you. I would love to help, 2000miles makes it a little hard. The factory service manual for the 1953-54 Desoto is required to work on the car. Do you have a FSM? It does not replace friend or a second set of eyes/hands, but it has all the diagnostic info you would need.

That person is likely Henry Oleson at Ole's in San Bruno. Henry is one of the best carbureutor people in the whole bay area. Ted at Gotelli's can also tell you where Ole's is as the place is down El Camino from Goats.

I had a hell of a time keeping the plug wires connected, on our 55 291. we had to mess with them and use needle nose pliers to get it to snap. mine is a 4 bbl, and it has multiple adjustments on the carb. Haven't been driving it much, since it is just now above freezing.

    Right on, HAMB personals work.
I do have a manual. Most makes sense, some is a little greek to me.
Once it stops raining I'll give some of the guys a call and PM you 52Pig. When I was rebuilding my carb I got the kit from Ole's. They were pretty helpful.
    Thanks again everyone.
