ok i have a 50 chevy and i got a 55 chevy 235 to put in it.. i was wondering what all i will need to do to make this work. i pulled the old motor out and was getting ready to put the new motor in and realized that the motor mounts were diffrent .i would really appreciate some help..
Contact a Chevy after market Parts Specialist firm. There are kits available for this swap. Just Google up Chevy 235 six engine conversion motor mount kits. Normbc9
The 50 Chev uses the front plate behind the timing gears as the motor mounts. Every 235 I've seen has this front plate but the motor mount holes probably won't be there on the 55 engine's front plate. When I did this I swapped out the front plate but that means you need to pull quite a bit of both motors apart (timing cover, oil pan to get to the bottom two timing cover bolts, timing gears, camshaft, etc.). Might be possible to just drill the two holes into the 55 plate by carefully measuring the 50 plate. The only other issue I can think of is that the 55 water pump may be too long. You can buy shortened ones or you can press the pulley mounting flange deeper on to the 55 pump your self if you know someone with a press. Only trick is finding a new pulley for the shortened water pump. This really is about as simple of a swap as you can get. Sound worse than it is. Good luck.
