This message board is full of JERK OFF'S. Its fun to read, but I don't recommend posting questions on here. Everyone has their own opinions and they love to give them to you. The people with the loudest voices probably can't even turn a wrench or own a hot rod. Being 15, you'll find that out soon enough.
Do your own thing, how you want it. Paint is whatever color you want. If it doesn't turn out the way you want it, start over. Or ask the guys in your club for help with technical questions, they'll either help you or find out how to help you. That's what being in a club is about.
I know for a fact that you'll find the answers to your questions locally and not from a bunch of "Internet Hot Rodders".

First and last post hopefully. But, because it was so full truth and wisdom, probably nothing else needs to be said on the subject of hot rods. He has probably moved on and is now maybe busy trying to help solve something more challenging for him like the world's financial crisis. Good luck with that internet genius and let the rest of us jerk offs know when you got it worked out if you haven't already done so.

Thanks 33 Chevy.... Let me pretense with saying, I love this site BUT, I LOVE my RATROD! WITH a 350/350 and airbags on a stock 1950 suspension AND FLAT BLACK paint! I Have RED rims and bias ply wide whites!!! PLUS I put a stereo on it that is so loud, I can hear it over my straight pipes (Lake pipes coming this week).... YES I am a passing FAD!!! BUT it is the same car I have had in my head for 25 years and IF I decide that I want her to be a trailer queen or weekend sunny day driver like many of the cars that I see, I can sand her and pay a million dollars for some "pro" to paint it for me! Until then, I am going to enjoy my RATROD! cause that is what it is!

I agree with The Gambler. Block sanding and guide coat is one of the most important things when trying to get the car straight, and when you guide coat dont tip the sander on end to get the guide coat off haha :D

Here ya go hot rod.Below is a pic of my ole 39 that i shot in primer last week just in time to make it to the Roundup. My intentions are to finish up my short to do list and when that is done i will semi gloss the body and high gloss the fenders and running boards.I think what a few of the guy's here are trying to say is basically what i am doing.Shoot a decent primer so your metal will not go to the rust gods and while your finishing items that need to be done it will give you time to throw a few duckies back and end up putting a decent finish paint on in the end........GOOD LUCK

Watch your strokes while spraying uniformity is the key. Not to fast .Just even. Its usually a one shot deal.Pay attention to humidity.Im no expert I know from one past experiance.Came out great. Friends car.

The funny thing is this message was dead several months ago, then some guys decide to pleasure each other over their rat rods. Way to go!

Use Hotrod Flatz, its made to look flat, easy to spray, (depending on humidity and temp conditions) and has UV protectants built in.
Cant wait to see your Ratrod when your done! Ratrods rock!:D

how personal is this offensive word? perhaps there should be a "sticky" on acceptable forum terms. How many a-holes have to jump on the kid like he came on here proclaiming Vanilla Ice is the greatest ever, popped the hubcaps off his moms Prius, painted the sidewalls white and asked to join your club.

Just spray it with rustolem or rattle can flat black. In Canada we use Tremco rust flat black. Your ride, do what you want!

They do make a single stage paint, they put a flatener in it. It is made by SEM or Dupont SEM is less expensive. it goes on fine. I did my 56 chevy pu with it. It was my first paint job and it came out great.

Vanilla Ice IS the greatest ever. He nailed Madonna. That's more than I've been able to accomplish to date. :D

Man, if you painted Vanilla Ice flat black, can you imagine how good he'd be! Oh wait, that's kinda racist.
