I was hopeing some of you could help me out here. I want to buy a digital camera, without giving an arm and a leg for it. A few questions: How many mega pixel do I need?, what is a good brand name?, and where is a good place to purchase one? Any feedback here would be great, I want something descent and up-to-date, but I am by no means a professional photographer. Thanks in advance-Joe

kind of along the same lines.....how do I make my pics smaller, so I can load them on this forum. H.A.M.B. says that the pics have to be smaller than 1000 bytes. I went into Photoshop, and can drop pixels, but I can't figure out how to make my images smaller in bytes. Flatheads Forever!!
I got a cheap HP 120 from Radio Shack that works great. It has three settings for good, better or best pix. Good gives you 53 shots with out having to download. Comes with software for resizing, cropping, fixing red eye, etc. Here's a sample of the quality.

Go to image size. toogle between pixel and percent. Highlight percent. Then you can decide how much smaller to make it. ie: 100% on 1.0 meg photo reduced to 50% will give you 500k. If you scale the picture under 400k, it should work. I use percent 'cause it's easier for me. Let me know how it works out.
There are a couple of ways to reduce the size of the photo, using web sites or photo shop if you have the software. However, most modern digital cameras offer an internal feature which allows you to select the resolution and increase or decrease the memory size of the picture. My mid priced camera offers 4 different resolutions, the lowest of which is compatible with this website. Most e-mail will allow a much larger picture than the HAMB does. There are a lot of cameras available for $200 that will serve non-professional needs very adequately. As the optical qualities of the lense improves, the price goes up, but the software is about the same from the mid price cameras through the higher priced cameras. At the lower end, the prices aroung $100 don't get you a lot of resolution or lense quality and the pixel count is lower. Unless you plan on printing very large photos, you will not need more than about 2 megapixels though 4 mps are not expensive. If you are willing to spend $300, you can get features like optical and digital zoom. All of the Japanese manufacturers make great cameras and they are all safe purchases in terms of electronics and optics. You will find that just learning how the software works and the features of the camera will be the biggest challenge, because they are really much more sophisticated than most of us need for our typical family shots and website postings.

[/ QUOTE ] to make an image smaller in photoshop...go to the pull down menu (image) and then go to re-size...image size...it will say how many pixels width and length... if you look above all that is says how many "k" an image is ... 1k=1000 bytes also to check any picture to see how big it is....right click and go to properties....it will tell ya how big it is... as far as cameras go my 2 cents worth...go kodak... the software interface is worth it...and i think the pictures look beter than the sonys and cannons....
