I've never been a big fan of dummy spots. But they can pass muster if they are mounted so that they actually look like they are functional lights rather than two chrme bumps sticking up from the corners of the cowl.
In my opinion, spots look great on a custom, however, my car is far from that. I think the spots dont really go with the style of paint, which reminds me more of a push car or poor kid hot rod, haha. I think they make the car look cluttered, especially since im not running any other accessories. This is the same reason I sold my skirts. The car looks a bit mutt-like with two different influences. Am I wrong about this?
I don't see that they are doing anything for the car and they don't function so loose 'em. That's my .02, but it is just an opinion.
When I was young (long time ago) there was a '49 Ford mild kustom on my block, everything shaved off, frenched head & taillights, '54 Pontiac grille, flare skirts, whitewalls, full Moon hubcaps, painted dark maroon, and these 'dummy' spots. They looked sooo Custom, with their tall, slender shape. I didn't know they were 'dummies' at the time, but when I learned the difference, I realized that the Appletons were the real 'shit'. But the dummies DID have their shape...
I'm all about kustoms having spots, real or dummy. But the JC Whitney/Cal Custom style like you have look funny. Get yourself a set of Appletons, or Kustom Kraft dummies and you'll be set. Yes, you need skirts too Your scallop and paint scheme makes no sense at all. Cool car though, lots of potential there
Man Groucho, I hate those scallops everyday of my life. The problem is the car needs a lot of bodywork before getting new paint, so im living with them for the time being. As far as the top, i could have gone the same color as the body, but a few HAMBers photoshopped it both ways for me, and same thing, after a poll and me staring, I went 2 tone. It was also much cheaper, haha. 13 bucks in rustoleum.
I think getting functional spots would be the way to go. I like the scallop paint job, maybe it's just me. Guess I like scallops on a car. I would definitely get a nice pair of skirts though.
Go back to post #6 and follow your own feelings. If you get any grief from others just remember whose name is on the title.
Lose 'em - I took a set off my chopped Caddy and wouldn't think of putting them on my chopped shoebox. I always thought it was funny that guys shave most (or all) of the chrome off a car then go back and bolt on some other cheap chrome do-dads. just my 2 cents
