I finally got my roof kit in from LeBaron Bonney, so that's what I did this weekend. Actually it was more like Friday night and Saturday morning. The I spent the Saturday seeking out an elusive cruise-in that I was told about. I'll post a photo thread regarding that later tonight. Having this installed made a HUGE difference in the inside temps while driving too. Naturally, without the sun beating down on me it's cooler, but more importantly the air coming in under the crank-out windshield now hits me right in the face and chest instead of going out the roof; making me that much more cooler. It's GREAT!!! If anyone is thinking about doing this for the first time, DO IT! It was way easier then I thought, especially after talking to Doug from LeBaron Bonney. This guy knows it all and is REALLY easy to talk to. Here are a few of the roof. I need to get a couple of the top in the sun. Vance
What did you use for the tack strip? Can't see from the pictures. I have a tudor sedan that has a need.
I got everything from LeBaron Bonney. The tack strip is a rubber/poly stuff that works pretty nice. The welting, (that's the trim that hides the tacks) is called 'wire on welting' and is way easier to use then the aluminum strips. The both need to be bent around the corners but as you can imagine, the aluminum takes a lot more work as it's about a 1/4" thick and almost an inch wide. It takes a real pro to do that, and I'm sure some special machine like a tubing bender with special dies to get it right. The wire on stuff was real nice to work with. I know I wouldn't shy away form doing it again. Vance
The wire on welting sounds good. I don't care for the way the aluminum track gets the "sitting up too high" vinyl snapped over it. I've actually got the original tack strip and was hoping to make that work. I'll contact Lebarron Bonney for sure. Thanks.
$115 shipped. This included the tack strip, the top kit, (including the muslin, padding and top fabric) and the wire on welting. They include tacks but the guy I spoke to a the Le Baron suggests staples. 12 years in the screen printing biz as a screen guy, I can wield a mean electric stapler. Vance
