I overheard a conversation about my Sedan last night

your car was prolly getting more attention that his was. pissed him off thats all.

 

I get that a lot too. Mine is basically stock and running good but looks just like it did when I found it. I like to park it in a line with really "nice" cars and see the disgusted looks on their faces. I do get comments like "they're only original once" and "I know a guy who has parts for that".

Thank you Ralph,,I've been busy trying to repair all the things that go wrong with a car after sitting a while but I am happy to have the car back in my possession once again.

And as for Rogers roadster,,that car is beautiful but I'm told it's not going anywhere! HRP

I think we sometimes get a bit bent out of shape because of OUR interpretation of what a rat rod is. I think the general public think anything that isn't shiny or doesn't have polished aluminium wheels is a rat rod.

A fella at work had heard about my car and asked to see a photo. When I showed him, he said, "Oh yeah, kinda a rat rod"

I think you're right. And with that prejudice, they'll probably never spend any time looking at any car that isn't shiny, so they'll never learn.

 

I'm not sure how it happened, but the words "rat rod" somehow became known by people who should have never heard about them. I have had old ladies and old men walk by my car and say "Nice rat rod." How did those words ever get in their vocabulary ??????? I can understand people who have some car knowledge hearing about rat rods, but not someone you would expect to know more about knitting !

I think you handled yourself quite well, and in the process shed a little light whether it sunk in or not. I think it's better than doing nothing at all, and much better than starting an all out fight. There's A LOT of ignorance out there! Unfortunately it's like they say, "You can't fix stupid"....

IMO, guys like this have alot of money but come up a bit short on brains when it comes to building a rod of any sorts! The fact is that guys like this pay someone like ourselves to do the work of bolting on parts from a cataloge. They do not possess the skills to do even the minor task of changing plugs in most cases, so we must bare with them. He is the one who has egg on his face!

 

Problem is ya didnt write a fat enough check for it.

I would love to have a car like yours! Guys come into my shop and ask me where my rr is , i tell them i don't own one, my car is a traditional hot rod! Then i explain the difference, some understand but not all, i just ignore some, i had a guy argue over it having a sbc in it. I told him its buick nailhead, he said he never heard of one and told me i was full of shit, it is a sbc. I just drove away,thinkig i just spent two years building it, i should know what motor i put in it! Lol!

I'd photograph your car if I saw it at a car show or on the street.....I wouldn't even look at his.......and that's what this site is all about. Those that get it do those that don't won't.

 

I don't know the specs of your car but if all ratrods were like yours, we wouldn't have the rodent problem we have now.

 

Everyone sees things differently. And that is OK. I find no problem in saying I like or displike something . . no problem at all. But to call someone's car a POS out in public is just not nice. He was wrong. He doesn't have to like it, nor do I ( I do though ), just not make public comments unless you are ready to defend it with reason or facts. he was wrong.
