I'm confused as to the instructions. After breaking down last week (bad coil, no spark) the wife ordered me the pertronix kit and coil as it was on my goodies list. I'm trying to install it but I'm confused as to the coil +/- Orientation and the connection of the wires. Here are the included instructions. (1948 Chrysler windsor 251 positive ground) And here is my current coil and wiring configuration. In the picture the positive side of the coil is on the left. On the negative (right) side of the coil that single green wire connects to a plate in the distrubitor. The other two on the left (positive side of the coil) I have no idea where they go. The instructions say only two wires should be attached at the end. I have no idea how to proceed. Please help as I'm just sitting here now lol Oh and the obligatory side of the road pic
You need to trace where the wires connected to the (+) side of the coil are going. Since you have a positive ground system they should be going to ground somewhere. Maybe the previous owner grounded a tach or dash ligts to the ground connection at the coil. Not sure what the wire attached to the coil bracket is for but it is probably going to ground too.
My Best advice for you is to look through the Paper work that came with your unit and find the 800 Tec line number and call them. You won't get any better or more correct info any where else. One wrong guess and you will have a hand full of Junk. Pertronix is a grate Co. to do business with and there Tec line is also Grate. Beyond that your just hoping what you get is correct, if not your screwed . The Wizzard
botched wiring by someone - yep, you need to trace back wires to where they connect - should not extra have ground at coil bracket - not good when same color wire used - looks like were picking up hot off coil for some reason
