urgh!! i hate it when i screw something up!!! and hate it just as much to admit it !!!!! i was trying to disasemble the front end of my 34 ford.. one of the spring perch nuts was really rusty (and previously stripped along time ago and rusted over) i tried and tired to get it off, it wouldnt budge with a 3 foot breaker bar, it kept wanting to strip, so i carefully ground it down to fit a 7/8 socket,, still no dice,, i even tried welding a larger nut to it...the weld would break before it would budge(and i am confident in my penetration, but there wasnt much meat) ,,i was finally able to get most of it off, except the tappered section that rests in the wishbone,, so i THOUGHT i would be able to torch out that lil section that would melt before the wishbone or perch due to the meteralogy of the metal..wrong,, i got into the threads(but the wishbone was untouched).....SOOO... can i weld this back up with a 220 welder cranked all the way up..then have someone with a lathe turn it down, and retap it?? i really want/have to keep the stock 34 (32-34) srping perch as i will be running stock early ford lever shocks .. (ALSO i would be more than happy to buy just ONE or two if anybody has one!!!!)
If they can make welded stroker cranks, that can be fixed. It would probably be cheaper to find a replacement, though.
My welding and machining experience tells me you would be throwing "dollars after dimes" to attempt to get a marginal repair. They are available. I sold a good pair a couple of months ago.
I would trash it DONT weld suspension components!!! I just got a set sent over by another Hamber good easy to fit and in great condition mind you I brought 2 sets off evil bay and they where both trash once again the power of the HAMB
Try calling Little Dearborn 1 (888) 282 2066. They sell on eBay and the stuff they list is nice. From what they told me, they have a warehouse of parts left from old dealerships. For a while, they even had a bunch of 38 Ford COE grills.
