Well this weekend I went out on my grandfathers land and save another piece of tin from the crusher. Two weeks ago I had gone to a family picnic and my grandfather who I had not tlked to for the last 7 yrs had approached me and asked me if I was going to come and get the old car that my father had left on his land and if not he was sending it to the junkyard for scrap. So I agreed to come and look at it. Just so you guys know I have not seen this car since I was 8 yrs old and my father and grandfather do not speak to each other at all. My father has been telling me that I should go get the car but he wasn't sure if my grandfather would let me take it and my father also had heard that grmps pushed the back of the car with his dozer and crushed it pretty bad. These are some of the reasons I have been not in any hurry to go and pursue this car. Anyway like I said we had a family picnic and being it was alright between the two I decided to go and check out this "OLD CAR" and to my surprise it was not as bad as I was told. So what the hell I decided to take this 1936 Dodge out of the woods were it has been resting for the last 25 yrs. and hope to either get it together enough for the next guy or build it and sell it later to support my true keepers.
If that were a 36 plymouth with a grille, i could sell it in a second. does a 36 dodge have the cool big old gauge in the dash???
Artillery wheels on it too. Was worth getting just for those. Good score. Fix it up and give your dad and grampa something to talk about.
Looks like a good buildable car. It'll be different from everything else at the cruise-in, not like you're gonna have 10 '36 Dodges show up at your average cruise.
great idea, blood is blood after all and what better way to bring them together then by an old car!!!!
Yeah, my Dad and Uncle didnt talk for years, and all over a stupid dispute. Thankfully they reconciled before it was too late. And the "too late" will come. Smack some sense into them by rebuilding that awesome ride. Then pass it onto your kids! My Grandpa bought a 1961 Ford Stepside IN 1960. Drove it for years. Then gave it to my Dad, which in turn drove it for years, then Dad restored it and gave it to my brother. 3rd generation cars are a rarity. Good luck!
Well I think I am gonna stick it out in back of my garage for now and let my kids play in it. I will not be building it right away possibly will start messing around with it later in the summer . I am considering looking for a newer mopar engine for it. Like what is in the Dodge Ram trucks. I am no mopar guy at all but I have to say there are some Dodge trucks running around this area that sound pretty damn good. So I think that is going to be the drive train I will be looking for.
Glad ya' saved it....I saw a 60 Ford Starliner going right into the scrap yard last Thursday, I pulled a U-turn and tried talking with the guy at the gate...and unless I had the cash and a way to haul it off a.s.a.p., he was headed in....I had no way off taking it with me at the time...so I'm sure as I type this, it has been crushed a few days already. Again, I'm glad you saved another one from becoming scrap.
Thanks for the save. It helps ease the pain of others I've seen go to dog food cans. Like the 60 Starliner mentioned in another reply, I've had to witness similar losses. Been nearly 2 month's ago I saw a 58 Buick Hardtop that didn't look bad at all going to the crusher. I had a brother in law working at the same place years back and pulled a 55 Olds 2 door hardtop right out from under the claw. Motor swap and a little brake work and I was cruising. The price of metal is down again, but clunker laws are being pushed again as seen here very recently. If you can't save or take it on yourself, get into a network as I am and pass along anything you find that should be saved. The more who know about finds soon to be doomed, the better the chance of salvation for a car that will never be built again.
