Customs I should have stayed in bed

Earlier this winter I managed to have an accident with two of my own vehicles, in my yard, by myself. They were both in gear….i can out dumb*** anyone I know. I bet you get it fixed up.

 

It's all your son-in-law's fault, if he hadn't parked that trailer there, the '55 probably wouldn't have gotten hurt. Well, maybe it's not all your son-in-law's fault, but you can blame him for it anyway. There, feel better?

 

I'm sorry you had a bad Friday, that should not happen to anyone. That said, there's no chance you have a Ring doorbell camera that could have caught that so we can watch the mayhem ufold? Especially the 40-foot skid marks in the gravel. Too soon?

 

No, unfortunately I am still working on the camera system. Soon, but not now…

 

You know this time next year you'll be laughing about sliding 40 ft trying to not get run over by your own car.
I know it still stings now but at least you didn't get run over.

 

Guy I used to know would always say, It’s all about perspective that would be funny as **** if you got to watch it happen

 

Have not done anything truly stupid lately, old age and perspective working in my favour, but a story too funny not to relate, lm at the lake, perhaps a few too many wobbly pops and intent on some evening fishing, borrowed the brother in-laws boat, won’t start, pop the lid off and investigate, well there’s this little interlock holding the starter out, so I disabled it, no ****in thought whatsoever as to why it’s there and grabbed the pull start and gave it a yank, well at that point it became obvious to me that the interlock was for the throttle because the damn thing started, Wide ****in open and started chewing its way up the bank, meanwhile I m hugging the engine for dear life and trying to not go over the back the boat while also trying to shut it off, finally got shut off about 3 feet onto dry land, looked over at the two kids beside me who were fishing in the marina, their eyes were big as saucers. I didn’t go fishing that evening

 

I’m just glad you’re okay it could have been way worse. Like you I have done some stupid **** with the most recent one being my big wrought iron gate I decided to fold the wrong way while getting my truck out of the backyard. I only scratched the truck and spent a few hours cutting, grinding and welding a new hinge on but I know deep down that I have something else that’ll rear it’s ugly before I know it. It’s just part of the territory….

 

I know the feeling! Sometimes I think I don't have the mental capacity to safely function in this world. A few years ago I was alone trying to relocate a Bantam rolling ch***is on our property. The thing had brakes and steering, so I positioned it so I could give it a shove and "hop on" as it gathered momentum and steer and stop it while sitting on a s**** of plywood on the frame. I planned to "drive" it around our house to the back yard and then push it under our deck. It was light, maybe 700 lbs, how hard can this be? Well, I got it rolling easy enough, but I misjudges the slope of our yard; it gained speed a lot faster than I expected. So I panic and attempted to "hop on". The plywood slipped, I fell right on the frame and find myself lying on the spinning driveshaft, which tried to rip the skin off my arm. I'm still rolling and gaining speed, headed toward falling off my neighbor's 6 foot terrace wall. Well, an angel stepped in, I managed to get my foot on the brake pedal while still lying face down on the ch***is. It stopped, crisis averted. My first instinct was to look around to see if anyone just witnessed all this idiocy. Nope! So I then had to nurse my raspberry arm. Be careful out there!

 

I've had a few "incidents" over the years. What I've noticed is that when **** starts to go wrong, my perspective changes to slow motion mode. I am able to see what is likely going to be the end result, but have no ability to change the output.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?

 

I am so happy I grew up in a time with no internet,youtube or any social media sites that could have do***ented any of the dumb stuff I did in my past.

Must have looked like you were skiing backwards. I bet you got "the look" from Mrs. Root!
I got that look from the Mrs. a couple of years ago; Son was on his way over to borrow/tow off our travel trailer. My 1/2 ton Chevy was in the middle of a water pump swap in the driveway and needed to be moved about 8' in order to get the trailer out. Back up my other truck, fasten a tow rope to the 1/2 ton and throw it in neutral. Figure I'll just pull it out of the way real quick myself. Just getting the rope tight when the Wife walks out and says, "you know if that comes unhitched your truck is going to roll all the way down the property until it hits those trees". She hops in the 1/2 ton, closes the door and as soon as I start pulling, the rope snaps! I jump out, see the look, and tell her, let me get my tow chain (like I should have). Walk of shame...

 

Yeah, next time you should put a ladder down as wheel chocks. You know they work best laying flat on the ground.

Hoping a couple of days dealing with the HAMB comedy team has given you some perspective and that you have found some things to be thankful for. Are you laughing yet? This type of therapy ain't cheap you know..........

 

Oh, it happens. I know it's not just me, but I like to think that maybe it was just my turn. Now, it can move on. I need to spend more time thinking and less time doing...

Safe to say when I put a Tudor body on it, I'm gonna install a parking brake .
