  5. Some speed freak bass boat builder had a divine inspiration in 1979 'cause he wanted a new vette but couldn't afford one. I especially like the wally world height restriction of 5'5"! And this is the companies first offering on the bay. Fo shame.

Hack, You can't fool me, I'm betting you wet yourself when you found that. You KNOW you want it, just put in a $40,000 bid and scare off all of those pretenders. We can use my dually and trailer to go pick it up. [IMG]

Nope, they are selling points, the guy is from RURAL Vermont, where there is absolutely NO car culture whatsoever.
I really wished the**** started with a cheesy 'vette instead of making an ordinarily good looking car into a cheesy vette clone.

  11. WHat a jackass to waste his time taking a cool car and making it look like an ugly**************. But like Deyo said....its friggen Vermont and they dont really have a car culture...still too awefully bad such a vehicle was destroyed [IMG]

Maybe you could get a deal on the parts he removed. By the looks of it, you just about reassemble a complete car...

I'm mystified by what type of person would mistake that monstrosity for a 'vette... [IMG] [IMG] Not that I'm a big fan of Corvettes, but most of them aren't THAT ugly!! [IMG] [IMG]

so you have the****-fugliness of a 70's vette, with the low-tech suspension of a 50's ford, with all "cool factor" of said ford removed...

inevitably a cop is gonna stop the driver of that car, see '54 merc on the reg, laugh hysterically, then impound it.

uhh, whole thing sounds like a lose-lose to me....

Makes me feel great tho, me and my "lil brown starfish" could build something better than that! (especially after the morning coffee and cigarette!)

Jeez, I sure hope all you guys never see pics of MY car when its finished, just in case YOU don't like it and and you VERBALLY***** me and ridicule my efforts to build something I like.

Good job you all can build PERFECTLY fashionable 'unfashionable' creations that put you in a position to pass*****ty CRITICISM on others who aren't so*****in' gifted and talented!

I get the impression that the first guy passes the word, and everybody else here jumps on the band waggon to join in and heap***** on the hapless VICTIM, so you can all play grab**** and be part of your big HAMB CULTURE.

I love the HAMB for all the tech info, culture and pure fun you guys put together here, but it pisses me the way you can suddenly play school kids and start ridiculing an individual on the strength of a pissy little photo, or a wrongly worded intro or question.

Get a*****in' life is all I can say!

    Fat Hack,
My Dad has a '54 Merc hardtop he's selling for 4500.00, no motor. Although he probably has a Y block for it. We've restored a few Sun Valleys over the years so he has misc. parts as well. I have a affliction for '54 Merc's as well, but the Egads Merc is plain hideous.

  24. Only one pic taken from across the street. No supersize link either. Guy's got no cohonnies. Maybe someone from the far east with more dollars than sense might want a piece of yankee incongruity...but I doubt it.

Morris, man, your insult is misguided. Posting an opinion to a message board in no way implies that one does not "have a life." Your opinion is duly noted, but there's no need to try to make yourself feel better by suggesting that we "get a life."

Regardless of any technical accumen, the '54 Merc-turned-Corvette is simply a BAD IDEA.

Aesthetically, it fails as a Corvette and has too many awkward lines. And because it so closely attempts to look like a Corvette, the comparison is inevitable and fair.

While Corvettes aren't my bag, one could argue that they are at least designed to perform well. I have a hard time understanding why someone would use the chassis and suspension of a '54 Merc to build a "performance" car. It simply doesn't make sense.

Even if a person has the ability to fully modify a vehicle, it doesn't necessarily mean that the result is worthy of praise. A healthy knowledge and respect for automotive design goes a long way to make a project successful. This car, unfortunately, fails miserably despite any good intentions.

  26. Bottom line, he had parts, a tool box and some time on his hands. At least he built something.
So, can we get back to talking about OUR cars?

Jesus morrisman, did someone spike your bangers and mash with a dash of Angertrol?
My opinion on that Corvettecury is in no way based on that tiny picture, it's based on the fact that some hybrids ought not to exist. And these HAMB****holes have no influence on me at all.
As far as I'm concerned it's a perfectly good waste of a pair of Austin Healey doors, damn shame.
