i know. i know. it's because there isn't any pressure on me to not fail.

i know i need to get over it, but i can't bring myself to turn on the welder and get that firewall in there permanently because there is this overarching fear of ruining my father's car that i can't get out from under.

i am excited about it, but it's paralyzing too.

so if you're willing to pull the trigger first, come on over. otherwise i just have to get up the courage to jump. and if you knew about me and jumping, well, we could be here a while...

You're on the right track IMO. Keep it simple and don't chop it. Rather than mickey around with the seating, you may find that a thin backrest will be the right ticket. I'm over 6'2, right about 225#, and my back has a "hey stupid!" stripe down low. I drove my 29 around with no backrest and I was too far back! I put the OEM back in and was wishing for about 2" less padding, but I could drive it and enjoy it as it was. For 150 miles? Maybe not, but a bit less rear padding, maybe even some less in the lower, just right. Jes sharin ideas bro...

Hey, does it still smoke? Ya think the rings will seat or will you set up a hopped up banger for later?

yeah, still messing with the seat. the package just arrived from Mac's. so it'll get new gaskets etc.

i did stop smoking so much, and begin to idle lower as it should. but now it won't stay running. starts hard, and quits as soon as i try to let the clutch out.
