Gotcha, I see where you were coming from and I agree. I was talking about the masses as old car masses. You were talking about all car people. Your masses were a lot more massive than mine. I agree that the Gasser fad won't pull people out of tuners, mini trucks, and donks. I'd be ready, the 4 door Gassers aren't far away.
I don't know, but it seems like every time I have some of that Carroll Shelby chili I feel like building a gasser.
ok, 4 door willys and studebaker sedans were bad ass gassers and still are, the gassers are an endless style and you just have to like em or not like em, kinda like a flaked roof or a ugh.rat rod rusty pos, some do, some don't, we have shipped three to rochester new york and a couple to rhode island all the way from okla, some to texas and even a couple here in okla, so it is still popular I can assure you, and yes you guys here on the hamb have an influence on them and help keep the interest up , so keep it up I love the work and love the cars, come see us run some of them at the tulsa nitro nats june 30th and if you have one and want to run with us, well get ahold of me and come on out. 2 cents
My personal take on the whole thing is I don't care how many there are, as long as people don't start building gasser styled cars that weren't on the strip back in the day, just so they can be different, I believe that's when the popularity of a trend is ruined. I mean, back in '67 there were no '78 Fairmonts, so why build one today?
Everyday I thank my lucky stars that I married a girl who is building a 46 ford two door coupe deluxe gasser with a 401 nailhead. man all this talk about a girl and a gasser...i think ill go....well you know where im gunna go.
Besides unclescooby's "Glasser Gasser" and early Willys examples, there really aren't many "gassers" that impress me. There are no street freaks that impress me either, so fad or not, I'll never own one, and that's all I really care about! I'm sure I'm in the minority though. Even in the early 60's/late 50's, people knew of better ways to launch and get down a racetrack than straight axles and the nose two feet in the air, so why do people keep replicating it?! I'd much prefer to see some "faked" street-legal early 60's factory lightweights, late 60's stockers/Pro Stockers and some Trans Am racers. Maybe that's the next fad!
I am buildin a "fake A/FX" car now if that is what you want to call it. A 65 Falcon with an altered wheelbase, 10 inches in the back 5 inches in the front, straight axle with F.E. power.
That's nice, I'm building a 64' Falcon Gasser that will be street driven and raced at the strip frequently. F.E. powered as well!! Good work outta' ya!!
Because somebody wants to. Your car appears to be bagged. Yes cars had air bags in the 60's but not like the set-ups of today. I really don't know, maybe you are running Citroen bags with no real controls. There really are very few cars done exactly as they were "back in the day". Most cars have some nod to modernization. So, many will run a modern day bag system because it is what they want while others will run a slightly later body because it is what they want. I imagine the lines of a 78 Fairmont look pretty good set up as a gasser.
There was a 4 door 57 Fairlane that a fela by the name of Dave Grady raced backe in the 70s in Blighty, it was a major ass kicker. RIP, Mr. Grady.
Are they all fake because they are street driven ? or is there some secret E.T. cut off we should know about. or does it have to be an original 50s 60s race car? School me please . Thanks Gasshole P.S. my slowest fake Gasser has gone 12.16 fastest 10.21
I say "who gives a shit" about new street gassers. I would rather see those and "rat rods" then a friggin' ricer with a wing and a fart pipe. And if you look back in real gasser archives, you will see there were tons of four door gassers. It wasn't about looks, it was about making it down the 1320 faster than the guy next to you. Tire sucked back then and that was the big hype for the weight transfer. If you don't like the "trend", pull over and sulk on the side of the road. The more the better to me. DuckusCrapus
They been doing them for years and years now...S.S., AFX cars...15 years ago, you could not GIVE away a '64 Fairlane...I LOVED mine! now...$$$ but,,,they will come and go, too...especially since we no longer have race car style to emulate on the street, what has changed? Pro-street is the end of the game, eh? now...race cars are trying to emulate "street"...there is not much new to invent....maybe a streetable F.E.D....or how about a Funnycar?
