That Lady's and gentlemen is an Aussy car. Every stuck on part was hand made from brass and chromed. Doubled the weight of the car and yes its ugly...........
But its part of our heritage.

    Maybe BARE-ASS Kustom!!!

That thing looks like my baloon knot!!

  9. I remember seeing a pic of that in an old Aussie Custom Rodder . Late 1960s.
Like Doc Watson says, Aussie car. A yank wouldn,t do that to a four door. He would take a two door. Australia only had four door Customlines.

Thank god I'm a Kiwi not an Aussie, I'd be damn ashamed if I were involved in anyway with that...................Custom?

  11. Gentlemen, you are overlooking a very tiny but very real customizing subculture or perhaps sub-subculture. I have no measure of it's significance but it is a distinct variation. It may have a name but I don't know it.
Yes it appears similar to the Phillipine Jeepneys and I've seen examples from the carribean. Most examples in the USA belong to African Americans but I have seen several examples driven by older white guys.
There is a guy in Oakland that has a decent 59 Eldorado convertible done this way.
This 52 Pontiac belonged to a man in Houston Texas. The photo was taken in 1974 by Chip Lord of the Ant Farm Art Collective, the group that planted all the Cadillacs in the ground in Amarillo, Texas.

For some reason that over the topped overdressed custom put a smile on my face. Would make it in Germany...

Remember the Henry Gregor Felsen novel "Road Rocket"? I think it's The Pooch's car.
