I got home from work last night and there was a big box waiting for me by my back door.;)

So I had to rip it open and stick 'em on the lander to see what they would look like.

Everyone has the same old zoomies and stuff on their car so I wanted somthing evil and aggressive looking. Well here you go. I saw a set of these at the HAMB drags and just had to have a set of my own.

They are Hooker Super Comp fenderwell headers for a 62 Nova. The turnouts are on back order though.

I may need to cut into them a bit and redirect the exits a little, they are awfully close to the body. I will see what it looks like when the turnouts show up.

Anyone know anything about ceramic coating? I would imagine I will cut them turn them, weld them and then paint the seam with some POR 15 aluminized header paint like I have on the spacetruck. It won't match exactly but it will be close.

Suedesled called me the other night and said my Tri-power intake is own the way as well so It should show up next week sometime.

damn high roller - looking pretty good. You look like a lime green roadster I've seen! Watch your ass on those pipes - at least you won't burn the front of your shin :)

I think they look great, the pic from the front is awesome.

  5. Looks good, I agree. Lots of people can identify a certain car by a special feature. If you set 10 black 30 roadsters all together they'll all look exactly the same from 50' , the one with the crazy pipes will always be the stand out. :D

Dunno about that... cutting and welding on a coated header. You should have bought them painted, modified them, and sent them out for coating...

Can you still return them and get a painted set? I'd rather see you do that, because I don't think there is anyway to cut and weld on them and have them turn out presentable without stripping off the coating and having them recoated.

    Fucking. Sweet.
I've never really liked the way zoomies looked. Those are a much nicer choice, in my opinion.

Hey the other night while wrenching on my buddies broke down '49 we were yacking it up with this guy who had this killer '55 Ford gasser who also stopped to help. Anywaysthis guy started to tell us about having his fenderwell headers powder coated BEFORE he realized they wouldn't FIT!!! His solution was to pull the car onto his 4 post lift and run a strap from a post to the collector. With a large ratchet strap he yanked the collector a FEW inches OVER and DOWN. No kinks and best of all - the powder coat looks like day one. You NEVER would have guessed any of this by looking at the headers!! He expected it to crack (as I would have) but it hung on fine. You might want to consider a similar approach. I know I probably wouldn't try it UNTIL I heard of this guy's success!!!
    Just thinking out loud....

Hemi Ramber - I was going to try that first, but these are pretty stout, so I wan't really planning on any success that way. I will give it a go though!

    I like!!
I have a concern though and this might be the place to ask. If you drive your rod everywhere, like to Home Depot say, do you worry that some little kid will burn the crap out of himself right after you park? Would you be liable for injurys to someone in a case like that? The reason I ask is I want some cool roadster pipes on my rpu but I want to drive it everywhere and I sure wouldn't want someone to get hurt, well not an innocent toddler anyway, might be kinda funny if some heifer backed into them whilst packing away her cases of diet Pepsi.

Damn, those are shiny. Can't you drag them through the mud or something! :D
J/K, those are pretty radical. I like it! Fits the rest of the car (except the shiny part! :D )

I wouldn't put it past somebody to take it to court, but I don't see how that would be any different than backing into a motorcycle's pipes.

You just stepped back into the box.
Catalog headers on the Lander is like putting a Picasso in a plastic Walmart picture frame.

If they burn their leg, they're standing too close to the car.

As for store bought headers, I had to have something to match the milk carton tank.

Unless I go out and buy a tubing bender and a tig welder, there wasn't any way I was going to build better headers or a gas tank for that matter.

Man, I love the Lander so much that it's my background on my computer...but now I'm bummed out after seeing that you're gonna disguise that SBC with Olds valve covers....I thought it would have a Real Rocket...say it isn't so.....

Alas, it seems that you can build a car out of nothing and still not satisfy the masses.

I am too cheap to build a rocket motor, and i like to hear everyone bitch so therefore I am going to run them to piss everyone off. Mainly Randy D and Irritant!

I am glad at least I still like it and haven't given up on it. Maybe I need to just keep my little projects to myself from now on.

Opinions are like assholes, but man, that's the first thing I've seen on that little ride that I actually don't like.

That bad boy needs a blown / injected motor with some wild zoomies... doesn't matter if it's a SBC or not..

In principle it wouldn't be but it would be way more likely to happen with pipes that are eyeball height to a rugrat.
I still like the thinking here and something a little different, not hacking on the car at all.
And apparently I am the only one that thought about the little ones. Maybe raising 10 of them makes you think that way.

For those that don't remember the motivation behind this project here is the first post on it. 9/29/04 a little less than a year ago.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30247&&showall=1

My original plan was to have something to kill time over the winter and not spend a fortune since I just finished the spacetruck (the first car I ever built) that year. That and to perhaps motivate a few people to build something far out, or maybe just build something period. I figured this may take me a couple of years and it looks like I may be ahead of schedule, not that there was one.:D

I could tell you how much I have in it, but then everyone would want to beat me up on the price when I go to sell it. I would love to have a blown anything in there, but unfortunately my budget won't allow it. My intention was not to build some wild showpiece, and since I don't even own a trailer it would have to be somewhat driveable.

It is my interpretation of what a 60's show rod would be. I don't have stacks of old magazines that I browse through for ideas, I just used what was available cheap. I was born in '73 so I wasn't around to know how things were "back in the day". My dad didn't even change his own oil let alone build a hot rod, so I figured all of this shit out on my own. So I have learned about welding, body work, chassis, motor stuff (which I still ain't too good at), brakes, and all of this shit in the past 4 years. Give me a fucking break for Christ's sake already! Ha Ha Ha

Here is what it looked like at the end of September last year.

Its amazing what you started with and what it has become in such a short time. You are inspiration for anyone that wants to build a car but doesn't think they can!

And about the headers... What I think the message the nay-sayers are trying to convey is that it would be a shame to put a header that anyone can buy onto a car that noone can touch.

Kinda, maybe. Its gonna be amazing however you finish it.
